What are the odds our Pac-12 bowl opponent Covid cancels?

Something to think about given the fact that we'll almost certainly be playing Oregon in the Fiesta or Colorado in the Alamo.

I am sure the bowls will confirm their intent before inviting them, but what happens over the next two weeks is anyone’s guess.

Fiesta or Alamo, if the Pac-12 opponent withdraws, they'll find a replacement opponent.
Fiesta I would say has a better chance. I think the Alamo could get canceled, but we shall see. A lot of rumblings with all of these teams opting out over the last 48 hours or so that several bowl games are about to be called off too.

Not sure what you meant exactly - but I think the Fiesta has the better chance of being cancelled. I think many bowls are in jeopardy - as any Covid relief is still months away. I think many scheduled games will get cancelled. You may or may not like him, but listen to what the Minnesota coach has to say about a bowl game. He makes great points. If a game is played, it will certainly not be a normal bowl experience for the kids. You know the kids want to play, but all the normal “fun” associated with a bowl game will be gone. Tough call. I imagine most of the kids would vote to play, but just a crap situation.

Whoever is the original Pac 12 Alamo Bowl team is most likely going to back out. I’d bet $ on it. Can they fill the spot? Maybe. Fiesta Pac 12 rep less likely to back out because it will be there conference champion and they’ll want the NY6 payout.

As weird as all this is, I’m not confident of there being any bowl games outside of CFP.

Take a listen. Hard to dispute anything said as not being true. People may, or may not like it, but this will have a bearing in this conversation:

Having empty campuses leading up to the bowls should help reduce the possibilities of a new outbreak. Most of the cancellations the last few weeks seemed to be from ongoing outbreaks.

Seems like most of the teams that are backing out and wanting the season ended are teams from the Big 10, Pac 12, or teams that sucked this year. The bowls should just pair Big 12, SEC, and ACC schools since those are the only 3 conferences trying to play entire seasons.

I think he’s being slightly melodramatic about the situations.

I can 100% see players saying, “eh, I don’t really care to deal with this for the Tuck-in-my-PJs Bowl Sponsored by Chlorox Wipes” but I can’t see that being their approach for the actual major bowl games.

If he was so worried about his players and COVID, they shouldn't have played the season. Then he could have refused half or more of his salary because he wasn't going to coach this season. HYPOCRITE.
I said some would like what he says, and some would not. I am not defending him, but I think you missed his point. He is only talking about the player experience, not about the dangers of Covid. He did not say they might catch Covid. I think he said to avoid the possibility and preserve the teams ability to play, they must live quite a Spartan life - no family, no friends, no meals, no fun.
Tell me exactly what you think he said that is not true?

I guess I'm not tracking on this newfound concern for finishing the season. Agree- some of it seems extremely hypocritical. If your players just don't want to play because your season was a dud compared to expectations, just say so. But don't use COVID as a suddenly convenient excuse when everyone has been managing around it (some better than others) for months now so the season could be played.

If you are in a NY6 bowl and then have to cancel or back out then you deserve to be taken behind the woodshed

Pollard said this stuff on CW’s podcast not even a week again. Why are people surprised? The bowls have always been pointless exhibitions besides the top games.
