*** Official DePaul vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Any actual Iowa State fans here? Doesn't seem like it.

I really think even those who are critical go about it respectfully. At least on here I don't see much over-the-top criticism of the players. Some evaluation of their games, but nothing over the top. As to Prohm, the man is paid over 2 million dollars a year to manage this program. I can't understand those thinking he's above criticism. And even at that, I think most of the criticism is far from excessive or overdone.

You can be a fan, support the team, hope they win but also be disgruntled about it's current trajectory. Those aren't exclusive concepts.

I still think you double Garza and just hope they are cold in a weird environment with no fans. Weiskamp and JBo have been ice cold this year.

Wieskamp is shooting 50% from 3 so far this season.

So being critical of the direction of the way that the basketball program has been headed, because you expect better, strips away your title of being an Iowa State fan now?

I don’t see it either, just wondering what we’re going to try. The IA guys like Jorbo and Weeze will be itching to score as much as possible, so I don’t want to leave them open from 3.

At the same time, if we just let Garza score it will be a track meet, and we don’t have the weapons to keep up with that.

You put Solomon on Garza and prays that he stays out of trouble. I think you mix it up with bringing a double at Garza. Perhaps at the TV timeout you indicate we are bringing a double at him for the next couple trips and then playing straight up until the next TV timeout. You have to try and keep Garza and Fran guessing.

You are going to have to bank on Iowa missing some jumpers in order to be competitive because they are the superior team. Iowa State will need to stay rebound well. In 2017 & 2018 we got outrebounded by 20+ that cannot happen this year or it will be a bloodbath.

CSP needs to manage the game better. This needs to managing from TV timeout to TV timeout. If that means pulling a Scott Drew and taking 4 timeouts in the first half then you do it. The longer they stay within earshot the more the pressure will build on Iowa. It makes no sense to try and have your team "play through it" if the result is an Iowa 10-0 or 12-0 run. Once that happens it's over.

We beat Iowa fairly easily when Wigginton was a freshman so maybe not every year..
By fairly easily you mean trailing by one with at the 11:00 minute mark in the 2H. We were up 4 with 2:00 minutes to go. There wasn't anything "fairly easy" about that game.

You must be new here? :) You aren't a fan unless you believe this team can get on the "bubble" for the NCAA Tournament. At the same time you have to be able to contort yourself to say that the Big 12 is so difficult that if we go 5-13 we are still showing progress and that the program is on solid footing. After all you shouldn't expect more than a tournament appearance every other year at Iowa State despite the fact that the coach that handed the reins to Prohm made it four years in a row and gift wrapped a certain NCAA appearance for him in Year 1 and arguably Year 2.

We had a 10 point lead with 4 minutes left and won by 6. Maybe not fairly easily but how can you say Fran out coached Prohm in that game? I’m not even a huge Prohm fan but I’d give him the edge that game.

I don’t think it’ll make a difference, but what’s our strategy going to be this year?

Last year we started off doubling Garza every time, but that just left their shooters open. Do we “let” Garza get his, then try to lock down everyone else?

Have Tyler Harris guard him in the post and see how many charges he can take.

When you are up 4 with two minutes to go and the opposing team has the ball I don't find that easy. When you lead by double-digits for all of the last 10 minutes of a game. That is winning comfortably. See Iowa 2018 & 2019.

Giving up after game 2, calling our players weak, suggesting that they would rather be on other teams...

Those are not qualities of a good fan, IMO.

Tbf, that 2017-18 team had some absolute dogs on that roster. Team wasn’t very good, but we had guys who played hard and with purpose, which is something we’ve lacked these last two seasons.

We'd lose.
I was at a ISU @ Drake game years ago where Drake won and I said, this ISU team will be lucky to win ten games...I was wrong and I Mean Really WRONG.....This team went on to win 33 or was it 34 games...and btw I was really happy to be Wrong!

...and remember GO CYCLONES!

It’s called being rational about expectations. I expected this team to show signs of improvement from last year, but things have either regressed or shown no signs of improvement. Attitudes will change if the production changes, which we have not seen thus far.

Okay. It’s not worth going back and forth on.

I mean I'd prefer not to have UW Milwaukee..lol...beggers cannot be choosers...but I'd def take any of first 4 for a nice warm up game before Iowa.

I AGREE ....I would really like to see us play Omaha U er now called UNO...Just an aside or is it a word of caution....When Lynn Nance was our coach we played Omaha U (thats what it was then)....and good ol boy Lynn from Kentucky ...LOST TO OMAHA U...can you believe it?

But if we cant play Drake I would go for Omaha, their I go again er UNO.....and remember GO CYCLONES

Heard on the Ten12 podcast that ISU was looking to get a game scheduled for Tuesday, but I haven’t seen anything from Hines etc. Anything new on this?

If we’re shooting for tomorrow I’d think we’d know soon, if not already

While not as good as that team, I think this team has a lot of room to grow like that team did. The pandemic causing issues with practice and scrimmages is going to compound the early season struggles of this team. I think this team could be solid by the end of the season, but it will be too late to make any kind of post season.
