People's inability to see anything but black or white on this issue continues to astound me.
Going to a football game in an outdoor stadium at low capacity, while observing a strictly-enforced mask policy, is a pretty low-risk activity. In spite of that, some people feel there still shouldn't be fans given the situation in Iowa right now. My opinion is that that is overly protective, but that is a perfectly valid position to take.
Regardless of how you feel about that, there are a lot of activities which are indisputably much higher risk in Iowa right now. And it's not inconsistent at all to say that football as described above is pretty safe, and lots of other stuff is not. I can hold those competing thoughts in my head...and it turns out they're true.
I'm not "living in fear," nor am I "panicked." I'm trying to make evidence-based evaluations of risk so I can do my part not to make other people sick.

I will be shocked if that happens, honestly. But hey, who knows. I hope to god it doesn’t because then the media narrative after the game will largely be about that and not what those young men just accomplished.
This is spot on. People struggle with nuance these days.

We didn't swarm the field after the Oklahoma game and I would hope our fans would have enough respect for the players and coaches who have done a tremendous job staying healthy so far this year.
Brian Kelly planned to get his players off the field and they seemed to come out of it ok.
Probably helped that the crowd of 11,000 plus was only player families and university students and staff, and they tested the entire campus several times during the week leading up to the game.
If we finish the regular season alone in first place, our players first thoughts shouldn't be to retreat to the locker room. Keep fans in the stands. Too much on the line.
I am usually all in on being an unprofessional fan, but hoping the outcome isn’t all that big of a deal. If it is it probably means Herman will surely be canned for losing to one of the Kansas schools. Of course I want us to win, but hoping the win isn’t all that significant in the grand scheme of things. I think Texas has the early start, so if they win, we will know before our game ends.
I'm leaning towards 25%. WVU has shown to be salty on both sides of the ball, but they are inconsistent from one game to the next. I like our chances, but a few turnovers or special teams plays could swing this pretty quickly.
West Virginia has kept road games close, but they haven't won one yet. I don't see that changing at Jack Trice. I think emotion could work against us early on senior day, but I think we settle down and end up winning by 10-13.
The fun thing about this team is that, even when down, I never feel like we're out of it. And that's something I never thought I'd type as an ISU fan.
I think we win, but it'll be a close, smash mouth football type of game. Two solid defenses. Two solid RB's. Brock is by far the more talented QB though, so I'll give WVU about 20-25% chance of winning.
Agree. It's impossible to avoid risk unless you literally lock yourself in your house with zero human contact. Outside venue with social distancing? You literally have a higher chance of getting/spreading covid at Hy-Vee or Wal-Mart. Or the doctor's office. Or the organic mom and pop shop. I don't get it.
