Vehicle reliability - best make/models?

and I have seen more then a few auto engineers across a few auto groups I am in on FB say they would buy Hyundai/Kia/Genesis in a heartbeat based on the current engineering they have.. and from my experience around them made our current choice pretty easy really with having multiple others we know owning them as well.
Not dubious, just cheap. Like I said, you could say this about all manufacturers.
A Tahoe doesn't have as expensive parts as an Escalade. That is just a fact.
Hyundai parts are cheap.
Maybe your impressive Dr. who isn't a real Dr. son works in Supplier Electrical Quality at a Big 3 plant like I do? If he doesn't then I can tell you that there are only so many suppliers in the world of automotive components. Price of components sets the price of cars.
Maybe Dr. Physics spent years of his life supplying Tesla and Hyundai interior parts like I did and spent days of his life in their plants? I am just posting what I know about automotive manufacturing, which I assume is more than most.
I have rented Hyundais before and they are good cars. I personally wouldn't buy one.
Cost benefit trade off of what you say is true. What’s the minimum you’ll spend on a car, hundred grand?
I've owned Jeeps since 2015 and I've loved mine. Right now I've got a Grand Cherokee Altitude and love it. My wife bought a VW Atlas once our twins outgrew our last car. I really like the utilization of space in the VW, but my Jeep has the guts to get up and go and that's what I love. My wife just had to have a sway bar tightened on her 2020, not sure if it's common with Atlases or not.
this right here just lost any credibility you might have had... they literally are the same vehicle underneath the sheet metal. yeah the Escalade might have a bit nicer interior build but the actual go parts are all the same..
I get what you are saying and a hundred grand wouldn't cover it. I tell people all the time that everyone makes good cars now. Good mass produced cars.If you want something exceptional you have to get something handmade like a Rolls Royce, Ferrari, etc. Even a hundred thousand dollar Mercedes is rolling down a line.
Personally, I like Acura and Audi. I also understand that those makes might not fit everyone's needs, but that is what we buy.
Not true at all, different trim levels and even recipes within those trim levels have different parts.
You have to trust me on this one. I work at a GM plant.
Volvos, all day. I have a 2008 S60 with 165k, and a 2018 XC60 with 44k.
They are a joy to drive, best designed vehicles I’ve driven.
I’ve done most of the maintenance myself on the ‘08, and the ‘18 is still under warranty and haven’t had a single issue with either, with exception of the ‘08 having its tire pressure monitors go; and I don’t need a couple hundred dollars of new parts to tell me if my tire pressure is low. So that little dashboard light shall shine bright.
I just wish they’d finally unveil a consumer pickup truck now that they have their factory up and running on US turf.

a High Country Tahoe/Suburban is very comparable to an Escalade they use the same exact 6.2L v8 with the same 10speed and air ride suspension. that is what actually affects real reliability.. the Escalade has a little nicer finish for the money sure but again the real nuts and bolts are the same.
My longstanding position is that the single most important factor in auto purchasing is the color. 
I stand by that in spite of not being able to correlate color with reliability. I am finding this apparent lack of correlation somewhat disturbing. My most unreliable car, that '68 MGB rocked in British Racing Green. All time best car, '04 Audi also rocked color with an Ocean Blue Pearl Effect. I think I need a bigger sample size** and a big old color wheel to code this out.

Very comparable and you are right about the powertrain, but the biggest warranty issues are by far and away electrical and/or trim issues and there are a lot of differences in those parts.
read an interesting article few years ago about how Kia got good, and I think their cars are still cheaper compared to similar cars.

That fun to drive 65 Mustang is slower, brakes worse, handles worse, is less safe and is a lot noisier (in bad ways like wind and road noise). But I'll totally agree that everyone looks cooler in a 65 Mustang even though it is objectively a worse car than anything made today. It's great for cruising downtown during the summer but you sure wouldn't want to take it on a 1000 mile road trip.

I'm honestly confused by the point you're trying to make in this thread to be honest. You say Hyundai parts a cheap. Cheap compared to what? If you want to tell me they are cheap compared to an Acura, well I effing hope so, because the Acura is going to cost double the amount of a Hyundai. If it's cheap compared to a base model Toyota or Ford, well I'd be surprised.
