Friday OT #1 - Leave a Message And I'll Call You Back

First "smart" phone was the Motorola Droid back in 08? Switched to an iPhone when the 4 came out and have been there ever since. Not a fanboy or anything, but I haven't ever had a reason to switch. Plus my work phone is an iPhone so it makes it easier to have the same OS.

Had a windows phone for work about 7 years ago and it was the absolute worst phone I've ever had. Period. Doesn't help that the project also bought the absolute cheapest physical phone that Verizon had at the time. Also had a bunch of first gen Surfaces there that were garbage as well. Whomever setup the IT on that job should have been fired.
Why was your windows phone so bad? Because I had one 7 years ago as well and it was awesome. If you're just talking about apps then I wouldn't call the phone bad really.

The first gen surface was just ahead of it's time much like Windows 8. Also doesn't help that first gen surface had some weird hardware.

I like Apple mainly because they just work. I probably don't push them hard, but they also just last. Bought my first iPhone 4s in 2012. Upgraded to a 6 in 2015 and just recently got a 11 this last spring. I've been impressed with how long they will last.

It was a deal they were offering last year. Google Fi customers could buy a Pixel 4 and have 50% of the purchase price credited to your account. My monthly statements since then have all been $0. One more free month then I have to start paying again. It was a pretty sweet deal!
I didn't see anything like that when I got mine last December. My bill has only passed $40 one time when I was on the road for almost 2 weeks. Between wifi at home and work I barely use any data.

I'm anti-Apple so I've been with Android from day 1. After having a couple non-flagship phones which struggled to make it 2 years, I switched to Samsung and currently have a Galaxy S8. It's paid off and still working well so I'll be sticking with it for a while since I tend to be frugal. A Pixel will probably be my next phone because of the camera quality.

For the surfaces we had first gen surfaces (the cheap ones). They just weren't powerful enough to run CAD or handle a lot of things they needed to do (not really the fault of the device more like our incompetent IT people). Some of Project Engineers got 3rd gen ones later on (I think a couple actually had the Surface books) and those were pretty nice pieces of hardware.

I think the issue we all had with the windows phone OS was that there didn't seem to be any apps (compared to iOS) and at least to me the tiling and OS didn't feel very intuitive or friendly. OS would also just completely freeze (happened to a lot of people) and they only way we could ever get it to reset was to pop the battery out (nice that you could do that). We may have been hampered by the hardware as well (again the IT department tried to be cheap at the start and ended up replacing just about every single piece of hardware on the project).

Apple because privacy, I’d like some of the Android freedom but with an Apple Watch now, I’m pretty locked in.

My first smart phone was a Blackberry. (It's still around here somewhere. Want to find it and somehow charge it up since it has on-the-field footage post Okie St 2011)

I've been Android Samsung since. Although, the talk of the Pixel intrugues me. I'm probably looking for a new phone soon. Been fighting a cracked screen since it fell out of my pocket at Homecoming last year.

There are days, though, that I miss my LG Banter, which I had right before the Blackberry

Learned this from a class at ISU. "Apple is a marketing company that happens to also make phones." Let that settle in if you are really getting the best value when you spend $1000 on your next phone.

I used to be in the anti Apple camp but then wanted to try it out and had the 8+ for two and a half years and just switched back. I was getting tired of not having widgets... Ope a couple days after I switched they added widgets lol.

But I had one of the original Android phones didn't like it for a bit. The windows phone blew everything out of the water for me. If only the apps were there we wouldn't be in this two party system. I think snapchat turning down 100 million to just support windows phone was the nail in the coffin.

Anyway I just got this bad boy a week ago. It's amazing and I can do so much at once.

I'm out of the loop what type of phone is this?

OK...I just pre-ordered the Pixel 5 (so the great deals certainly will start being announced TOMORROW with my luck)...always been an Android guy (LOVED the HTC ONE phones) but have had an Samsung S8 lately. Always wanted a Pixel but it never worked out until now. I am going to sign up for Fi as soon as the phone arrives. Funny how this excites me...but I just keep looking at the "expected" shipping date and it feels like waiting for Christmas as a kid!

I signed up for Fi last December. I'm happy with the service and very happy with the bill. Of course WiFi at home, the office and the bar helps. I barely use any data.

Do you notice any glitches? My wife is an iPhone user and a buddy of mine feels that texting photos to iPhones is glitchy since he has switched to Fi. Hope it is just something on his end...not system wide!

I've never noticed any glitches. The two people I probably text the most photos to are both iPhone users and they have never mentioned anything. I should also note that I am not texting a lot of photos. Just on occasion.

Thanks for the response...that makes me feel better about the situation. We don't text anything of vital importance but photos of our kids and stuff...again, thanks!
