Margins?

I hate the slow starts as much as anyone but lets see how this team adjusts first before we get too critical or act like the sky is falling. I wish we could get over having to worry about getting upset by non-conf teams at home but what is done is done and time to move on. Kind of reminds me of how once expectations got raised under McCarney how fans turned on him quick and look how long it took us to even get back to winning 6+ consistently after we fired him. I get the frustration but careful what you wish for too. Thumping TCU on the road in 2 weeks would go a long ways towards changing the mood around here too.

I think its fair to point to the starts we've seen with this staff, it's never been pretty (with the exception of the 1 play against SDSU). I have confidence they'll get things on track, like they usually do. It is a little bit concerning that this is 3 awful showings in a row for the program. KSU, ND and now ULL, we just didn't show up and got our teeth kicked in. The last drive, the defense just absolutely bent over and took a throttling from the Cajuns. The guys seemingly giving up has me more concerned than being 0-1 right now.

What else are you expecting him to say on record in front of a camera? He has to give lame coach speak answers. He can't blow up and blame poor coaching moves or poor player execution. That will murder recruiting.

Sometimes we just need to know that HE feels something beyond platitudes... CMC is vanilla pudding - we've all known that. He cuts the crust off his white bread, puts his name into his underpants and gets out mid-shower to peeeee. But when the TEAM shows up as vanilla week in and week out and we're seeing this troubling trend...

CMC has better talent and he's playing in a weaker B12.

For example there were four B12 teams that won 10+ games in 2010, 2011, and 2015; that has happened 0 times during CMC's time here. That is unfortunately hard to ignore.

Okay, lets clarify a couple of things.

For 2 of those years I think there were 8 conference games so teams like KSU and others could load up on 4 cupcakes.

Today there are 9 conference games plus a great deal of pressure to play a P5 team out of conference.

For example Texas in 2010 played Rice, Wyoming, Florida Atlantic. They also played UCLA who won like 4 games that year, one of which was beating Texas I believe

Tech played SMU, New Mexico, Weber State, and Houston.

OU played a good FSU team and then 3 patsies
Baylor Sam Houston State, Buffalo, Rice. and a good TCU team which destroyed Baylor.

OSU played a 2 win WSU team and 3 non P5 teams.

2015 was a good year then again Baylor loaded up with 3 cupcakes, no P5 teams as did OSU,

Anyway you get the point, just because some teams had 10 wins, a big part was already scheduling 3 wins in the non conference.

We will never be a respected "good" program if we cannot easily handle the UNI's and Sun Belt teams.

I'd hate to think Iowa State has ruined another coach. It really must be too hard to win here. K State and Kansas have had blips of success due to being slightly closer to high level talent. We just are too isolated and barren. The last resort for any talented recruit. It is very sobering to be so woke to this fact.

Kansas has had ONE freakin season! Here is the grueling conference schedule they played that season...

K-State 5-7
Baylor 0-8
Colorado 6-7
A&M 7-6
Nebraska 5-7
OSU 7-6
ISU 3-9

Lol! I loved that OSU, A&M, Baylor rotation. Always knew we were in for a long year when we had it the other way

Absolutely! That was also why some of the Danny Mac teams were fools gold. Iowa State drawing both OU and UT on the road was absolutely brutal though.

Give me a call when Iowa State starts losing games 71-7... If you can't see the difference between those years and now you aren't even trying.
C'mon... Compare each CMC loss with each CPR loss.

I agree with this. It is nice knowing that each game is at least worth suiting up for, whereas with CPR there were definitely games that were over before they kicked off. I also think that is, at least in some part, a byproduct of having way better teams in the Big 12 then.

I mean, last year we beat one FBS team with a winning record. We had an easy schedule-- the Big 12 was bad. Looks like it could be the same again this year....

It wasn't that we had an easy schedule, we just didn't beat any of the high level teams last year. Iowa State had a consensus top 15 SOS last season...

I suppose, but hanging your hat on SOS when you don't beat any of the teams that makes your SOS good isn't really something I get too jazzed about.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hanging my hat on the SOS, there were certainly a couple of games there for the taking but for the most part iowa State beat the teams they should have last year. The K-State and OSU games should have been wins.

For the 10,000th time, we are not trying to get touch backs!!!!!!! We are trying to make them catch it between the 5 and the goal line in one of the corners. With the exception of Saturday this strategy has worked pretty good.

Great... It's a dog $hit strategy, we've had two returns ran back for six in our last three games. For what, to save 5 or 10 yards? Take the freakin play out of the game and just bomb it deep. If pinning them in the corner is such a sweet idea more teams would be doing it. Kickoff returns are a HUGE momentum swing play.

You look at it as 2 out of 3 games and I look at it as 2 out of all kickoffs since the 25 yard line rule was put in place (the entire body of work).
