What is your biggest question mark going into game week?

Others have said it but mine will be if the Defense will change it up a little. Seems like we have been copied enough that the 3-3-5 is not the advantage that it used to be, offences are more familiar on how to attack. Lima and Johnson not there to anchor the NG, maybe more 4 down linemen?

I thought the 2 deeps would be out today.

I thought it would be out as well. I am wondering if they won't release any this year because guys could all of the sudden be ruled out because of testing etc a day before the game? or there were positions that weren't settled yet?

Hoping to see something better for the first game - we have a pretty veteran team and starting the season a little later so we should see better.

Defense quietly slipped last year. 3rd down defense was a part of it, but can ISU do more to pressure QBs is my question so that the secondary doesn't have so much on its shoulders. I think offenses are starting to figure out our D a little bit, so let's tweak it and keep the best 11 on the field (which is how Heacock came up with this D in the first place).

I think getting Bailey back should help, but to me it also seemed like Enyi had a down year last season. I think both of them return back to their previous levels of production and we should see improvement. I agree that the 3-3-5 is starting to get figured out, so hopefully Heacock is willing to adjust

Agree.

I suppose many will say that comes back to "offensive line," but that can't be the *only* factor.

Scheme, play-calling, it can be running backs but I think ISU's are pretty good, and will we have an H-back kind of player like we had a couple years ago? All sub-questions, in addition to do we use the big QB's we have in a Lanning kind of package?

Why do so many people want Purdy to run all the time?

I know he’s an effective runner, but if he gets injured, our season is over folks..... plain and simple.

You did see our offense last season right? We are a much better team when Purdy can run, plain and simple

Then it’s on Manning to fix that. They are going to have to do everything possible to keep Purdy healthy.

Granted there will be times when he’ll be forced to scramble, but I don’t think it’s smart to run very many designed QB runs when we have no backup basically.

Are we finally going to break free from the game 1 Campbell slump.
It already took a lightning storm of epic proportions to keep that “slump” from being broken. South Dakota State was about to get pounded.

I hope you’re not saying “Can lightning strike twice?”
Will Matt Campbell be rumored to be a candidate for any other coaching jobs?

:jimlad:
Isn’t the question “Which head coaching job(s) will Matt Campbell be rumored for?” :jimlad:

1) Run blocking by a grand canyon margin

2) Get pressure on the QB. Our defense can be #1 in the conference with steady pressure. The soft zone looks only work when the QB has under 3 seconds to throw the ball

Oline - particularly run blocking....if you have that in week 1 you don't have week 1 slump
