Movie industry will be fine. I listen to a lot of movie pods and there is a ton of hand wringing about the industry as a whole, but there have never been more movies and TV produced than there is right now. I don't get the concern there.

I do worry about theaters. I'm pushing 40 and I'm not cool. But there is something about seeing a great movie in a theater. I've got an awesome home setup but the family and I went and saw Back to the Future at the drive in and it was a ball. Twister is playing at my local theater, I kind of want to go.

Sony has hired Olivia Wilde (yes, THAT Olivia Wilde) to direct a secret Marvel film. Speculation is that it will be based on Spider-Woman. Katie Silberman will write the film. Silberman and Wilde previously collaborated on Booksmart, where Silberman was on the writing staff and Wilde directed the film.

This is cool to see. I did actually see Booksmart, and while I thought it was a bit overrated and didn't deserve quite the hype it got, it still showed Olivia Wilde to me as a promising upcoming director with potential. Therefore, I've been hoping for a bit now that she would sign onto some superhero project whether that be the MCU, DCEU, or the SPUMC.

Man, the SPUMC has been active lately as news of a new director hire for them just got released, which is JC Chandor for their upcoming Kraven The Hunter movie. For those of you who don't know him, he directed Triple Frontier on Netflix, A Most Violent Year, and Margin Call. I really enjoyed both Margin Call and Triple Frontier, and thought Triple Frontier was especially underrated, so I'm excited for this hire.

Guess what?? There's a comicbook movie actually in theaters!
New Mutants debuted (finally) last night. Estimates say that it brought in $750,000 last night and the movie is tracking to make $7-10 million this weekend.

New Mutants currently has a 20% "Tomatometer" score on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 55%.

I actually already have tickets for this coming Tuesday night in Cedar Rapids to go see it. I'm definitely more excited about just going to the movie theater again and it being a comic book movie more so than actually going to see New Mutants specifically. Regardless, the movie could end up being terrible and I'll still walk away happy.

Everyone has to make their own choices and I totally respect that, but I personally don't see the risk in seeing a movie in a masked-up, socially distant required movie theater as any more risky than a lot of other stuff I've done, including just eating at any restaurant indoors. In fact, I almost feel safer at a movie theater than at a restaurant. That could just be me and that is fine.

Wow, so heartbreaking and I had no idea. I absolutely loved him as an actor, especially as Black Panther. This will leave a gaping hole in all our hearts. My prayers go out to his family. Ee-BOM-BAY my friend.

Yeah that's what I was going to say. I don't think you can recast him. Shuri becomes the Panther in the comics, different movie with her as the Panther but I honestly hope they let him always remain T'Challa.

Another possibility is that M’Baku could become the Black Panther. M’Baku’s character arch was fascinating and seeing him take on the mantle of Black Panther would be a bittersweet tribute.

Agreed. And Winston Duke is a really good actor and I think he'd be great as the Panther. A little more menacing and tough.

I’ll actually be surprised if they don’t recast T’Challa. Not least, because they don’t have a way to write his character out off screen.

The MCU will introduce the “Multiverse” in Doctor Strange 2, so we could get an alternate dimension where Black Widow is alive, Mutants exist, and an alternate Black Panther rules Wakanda
