Yeah, maybe don’t revel in the schadenfreude quite so much, considering it’s just a matter of time before the Big 12 follows suit. COVID is doing what was completely predictable on college campuses everywhere.
I agree that the COVID outbreaks on college campuses were predictable, but the argument for college football has shifted. Risk tolerance, acceptance of "bubble" environments for college athletes, COVID fatigue, and the Big 10 backlash have all changed the narrative. Throw in the new testing technology, and the P3 is sitting as pretty (relatively speaking) as they've been in weeks.
There will be positive tests. It's up to the P3 ADs to navigate the PR pitfalls that will come with these "outbreaks". Transparency, managing expectations, and communicating established protocols will be the most important measures in keeping the media and politicians off their backs. And of course, players and staff have to stay within their "bubble".
I've been cautiously optimistic for awhile, and that optimism has only increased since the Big 12 announced its intention to play. We've been given a good hand, just have to play it wisely.
