NO FANS AT CYCLONE GAMES?

Look if the numbers keep rising on the 18-30 year old demographic, you could see teams have to forfeit games this fall due to number of kids sitting in quarantine

Still not sure how they are going to avoid this one..

A few cancellations aren't the end of the world. There certainly will be clusters in some teams. I believe conferences are trying to move conference championships back to open up a date for make-ups.

University of Arizona has suspended their summer workouts while they are waiting for clarification from the state legislature, as all gyms in the state are closed for 30 days due to the number of cases. They are supposed to begin formal activities July 6. As of last week, Arizona has tested 83 athletes that have returned for voluntary workouts, with only 1 athlete testing positive - doesn't say if this was a football player or not.

Randy Cohen, the Arizona associate athletics director for medical services, expressed concern with the potential of a football season to CBS.

“We’re trying to play football on the upswing of a global pandemic,” Cohen said. “Can we accomplish it? The odds are probably not very good.”

It kind of depends on what teams get hit when. Now with students coming back the hope would be it runs its course in September.

I used to think start early, and avoid games in late Nov/Dec, now thinking push back the start a few weeks and let the spike get through college campuses. (Which is going to come most likely)

Still got a couple of months to go, fingers crossed

What is the risk of hospitalization? A hospital like Mary Greeley could be overrun if a large number of students needed hospitalization due to COVID.

Also hearing that young people are holding on to the virus for longer than 14 days. Some have been found up to 23 days still contagious.

If football happens it's going to be musical positions for a lot of teams, coaches too.

I do not understand the “run it’s course” mentality. It will not get better until behaviors change, and ultimately we get a vaccine. Fauci today said we may hit 100,000 cases per day.
Instead of “fingers crossed” act responsibly and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Maybe you do,I cannot tell from your post. But adopting hope, or this administrations policy that it will just get better is foolish / imo. The trajectory would suggest things are going to get a lot worse. I no longer think football will be played, even with all the money on the table.

Could be wrong but 'run its course' might refer to the football team all having had it by the time September rolls around.

This is assuming immunity and no long lingering effects or dying which are all unknowns.

There is a natural tendency to diminish that which we fear in the hopes somehow we’ll will it away. I think of it like my 4 year old thinking I can’t see him if he covers his eyes. If we play peekaboo, COVID will surely run away.

Unfortunately, science doesn’t work that way. Pandemics don’t work that way. Only tough measures (see many other civilized countries as a good example... Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, etc) and a public willing to be uncomfortable for more than a weekend will support.

If the govt won’t give a consistent answer, and even the simplest things like masks are too restive and oppressive for some, we really have no hope of doing anything other than waiting for a vaccine. Americans are to full of themselves to put up with somebody telling them something for their own good and too polarized to have any coherent and responsible response.

While this doesn’t have to be so bad, we’re past the point of no return with how difficult we’ve made it.

So lets make sure we have an open, honest debate and see what are the mistakes to correct instead of panic and fear mongering.

While its impossible to go back and fix our mistakes we might want to look back to people that got things right in the beginning and make sure our future response considers their reasoning in how they got things correct. Instead of going back to people that have continually been wrong. This was written March 17th and he was very accurate compared to most with the case fatality rate of .3%.

It ain't complicated.
Mandate masks.
Never open the bars and restaurants until things are under control. Same with churches and other large public meeting places.
Work from there.

Shut down all large manufacturing plants too (large public meeting places) ?

I wear masks everywhere due to two health conditions. Being an ISU and TOLEDO football fan....lol. Just wanted to bring alittle smile (I hope?) to an issue I have no idea who is correct or not. Seems like a lot of changes/restrictions for something not much worse than the flu. On the other hand, my wife's grandmother passed from it at a nursing home. We need a vaccine or reliable treatments SOON!

Not really. We just need people who give a crap about others.
You're doing fine, since you're wearing the mask. If everyone did that, we'd be in great shape.

You mean you went to a water park over the weekend and no one died immediately? I know you are really dense but you surely know there is an incubation period.

Of course, I'll be sure to keep you updated. Still, 3 days later and yep zero deaths.

You would be correct.

Someone told me this was you last weekend.

Do you know anyone that has had COVID? Have you seen any dead bodies? I can’t wait to see how many of these “dead” people vote blue in November. Hoax.
You didn't ask me but since this is an open forum I will answer.

I have a friend who has had some of his extended family hit. His brother has a son who goes to school in Wisconsin. When this all blew up and the school closed he decided to spend an evening with a friend before leaving town the next day. Turns out that that Wisky family all came down with it and the son brought it home to Iowa. The whole family came down with it: son, his two brothers, mom and dad. They were really worried about the mom because of a pretty serious pre-existing condition but it was the seemingly healthy dad (~50) who ended up gravely ill. He is out of the woods now but they seriously didn't think he was going to make it. They still do not know if he will fully recover or if some of the symptoms he still has will be permanent.

I have another friend who along with his wife thought they were being careful; wearing masks, social distancing. He was tested due to his work and he was surprised to learn he tested positive. His wife tested negative. It wasn't until they had to start notifying those they had been in contact with that they realized they hadn't been as careful as they thought and there was a hell of a lot more they could have done to avoid exposing that many people to the virus. I don't fault him, I know that I would probably be in the same boat if I tested positive; we are careful, but we could be a hell of a lot more careful.

I am working from home but have to go in to the office from time to time. Two or three weeks ago I was told to not come in for a while. It turns out that we had some cases among the few people still working from the office. I am not privy to who exactly it was or how they are doing (medical privacy), but I definitely know whomever it is.

It is irresponsible and despicable to call this a hoax. Please do not send this conversation to the cave with your red/blue trash talk.

I was being facetious but thanks for your service in helping me make my point.:cool::D

Y'all still think we're gonna have a season starting in less than 60 days?

Get used to the idea of it not happening now so when the announcement comes, you're not so disheartened. Title should change to "NO CYCLONE GAMES"
