Blake Hinson Committed To ISU!

I love the elevation on his jump shot. It seems he often not only stops on the jump shot (rather than still drifting forward like a lot of players tend to do) but he actually jumps backwards a small amount. This makes it really tough to call a charge on a player unless he makes contact before his jump. It also makes it tougher to block and could result in more fouls on shot blockers if they do. Referees don't like to see shot blockers moving toward the shooter on the jump.

I've never been the biggest fan of the mid range jumper, but with the line moving back again, the shot will get more popular. It's actually a pretty important part of the game, especially if you have the ability to get to the rim. My only hope for his jump shot is that he doesn't consistently settle for the jump shot when he could go all the way to the rim. THT did that a lot, and on the other side of things, Shayok did it the perfect amount.

Waivers for both Hinson and Harris and I think we might be able to do something with the upcoming season.

What are we thinking with scholly #4? Banking?

Bank until you find something good. I find no reason to pass on really good players of any eligibility variety right now. We finally have a roster with some short term and long term optimism and no glaring position holes for beyond 20-21. I would say that you can go get anyone at any position with that last one. Personally, I'd like an immediately eligible PG if they were great and after that, a shooter.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer ****, but optimizing lots of options in a lineup hasn't proven to be Steve's strength. With COVID making summer plans difficult, I hope some clear performers emerge quickly.

If so, I agree, it could be a surprisingly good team with a lot of versatile threats.

I understand the thought and a fair criticism but to be optimistic view is the interchangeable pieces should be closer in talent wise to limit any drop off.
For example if Hinson/JC-L needs to sit replacing him with the talent of Johnson/Blackwell/Foster/Dubar is much less then last year when Jacobson needed to sit and was replaced by Griffin/Lewis.
The bottom of the roster is tremendously more B12 worthy than last years especially if Hinson/Harris get their waivers.

A Hinson/Foster frontcourt in a couple years could be damn tough to guard. If they both become consistent 35-40% from three...look out. Conditt needs to take that next step and become an all conference caliber center doing the dirty work in the middle.

I could see this senior-laden team make a serious run in 2021-2022

A Hinson/Foster frontcourt in a couple years could be damn tough to guard. If they both become consistent 35-40% from three...look out. Conditt needs to take that next step and become an all conference caliber center doing the dirty work in the middle.

Imagine if Conditt takes a leap and you can play all three with Walker and one of the incoming wings. That's a very long, pretty athletic team that could be a nightmare in a zone if they wanted.

it seems the usually acceptable precedence doesn't apply here (Coaching change, injury, etc). Seems like he thought his minutes were going to get cut with what Ole Miss is bring in.

Sounds like from reading about Kermit Davis's offense they he didn't like 3 point shots and his offense was more designed to get mid range jumpers and shots in the lane. Just a guess, but I wonder if he shot a lot more contested shots at Ole Miss than he would in a Prohm offense. Will likely have better looks from 3.

Hinson, Harris, and Conditt all have that fiery attitude we need and have been lacking for far too long.

Actually this won't help with Recruiting Sunrise. I know a lot about that school. Since it's a transfer we didn't have to deal with Luke very much. It won't hurt if the kid does good though.

Honestly, I don't know. As I said before, I really don't have any inside information and only believe Hinson will get a waiver based on pure optimism. He's immediately trying to get eligible and during all of this COVID stuff, I just think maybe the NCAA will be lenient. That and I believe a couple other Ole Miss guys transferred as well, so maybe there was something going on within the program?

Not trying to derail this thread or take it to the cave but I wonder if the current issues with the Mississippi state flag could impact the NCAA giving waivers to players wanting to leave schools in that state. The NCAA is clearly on the players side in this case.

Yeah it was a review of his offensive and defensive systems when he was hired as a coach there. I guess as a coach at Midd. Tenn. there were consistently in the bottom 3rd in the country in terms of the percentage of shots that were 3 pointers.

Well this really eases the sting on missing out on the Indiana transfer and Gach. Very good addition.

Gach may end up wishing he'd made a better decision. I wouldn't be surprised if Prohm finds a PG unless he thinks Harris is the guy and gets the waiver.
