2 ISU FB players have Coronavirus

Didn’t Ohio State just ask their players to sign a liability waiver?

I can’t see that as a positive sign.

Yeah, because coronavirus either kills you or you 100% recover without other complications.

And you don’t infect someone else, who affects someone else, who infects two other people. It just ends when you either die or fully recover in a week, it’s just the flu. In typical Pride fashion he dove in headfirst to the outcomes but never bothered to even get a rudimentary understanding of what a highly contagious disease is and how it works.

Average age of death is 81. I think acting like it is what we thought it was at this point is driven by an agenda.

no one is saying that many football players will die from this. In fact, most of us think that it’s unlikely that many will be very sick. However, there is a lot we don’t know about this disease and to say it is like the flu is very stupid. We don’t know.

but the argument isn’t about how sick the players get. It is about how you keep the players isolated enough to keep them from passing it on to lots of people on the team.

this is such a stupid and ignorant comment.

Yeah this is the main question that lots of leagues are going to have to deal with. I think most of us believe college football is going to end up happening in some capacity.. The question at the end of this will be whether it was worth it or not.

Can you explain what you mean? More specifically

Coronavirus infections would plunge if 80 percent of people wore masks, study says

"Universal masking at 80 [percent] adoption flattens the curve significantly more than maintaining a strict lockdown," researchers wrote in the study

"Masking at only 50 [percent] adoption is not sufficient to prevent continued spread," the researchers added. Replacing the strict lockdown with social distancing on May 31 without masking results in unchecked spread."

Haven't followed all the discussion on this so far in the thread, but seems like the usual.

The reality is we knew this would happen. There will be those, including some in this thread, who freak out. There will be those who have the other extreme reaction and say nothing's wrong at all. My hope is the CMC, JP, and the others in positions of authority are not having either of those reactions.

Let's call this what it is - two players contracted the virus (to my knowledge) prior to the official start of team activities. In other words, them catching the virus was not related to football. This is two people who unfortunately caught the virus while living their day to day lives. Unfortunate, but so long as it doesn't develop into a serious case then not a big deal so long as they follow self isolation, etc. In the general population, the CDC says you have about a 3% chance of having a serious case, but that includes all age groups. For these young, healthy athletes the chance is much less.

What needs to happen is that the people in charge need to monitor the situation and keep it under control. Some people will get the virus throughout the course of the season. That's just inevitable. Don't panic, but know when to pull the plug if the virus starts spreading too much. Will they? I'm not as sure as I once was, considering the number of people they are allowing into the stadium for games.

I'm happy to read that. I find it interesting they don't mention anything about social distancing.

Humor me here, if 60,000 people are in Jack Trice Stadium and 100% are wearing a mask for the entire game, is that reasonably safe?

IMHO, it's more safe than 50% attendance and not requiring masks.

Yes. Let's quit making it an argument about death rate. The point is we don't know how long these players will be out sick, we don't know if they will have long term effects, we don't know when their bodies can handle activity again. We don't know how many will be in self isolation. Yes, we know the death rate is low but that doesn't change the scenarios that AD, coaches and universities have to try to problem solve right now.

The national champion this year will be whatever team is able to remain the healthiest through this virus.

Or, who covers up their cases the best? I think this was stated in this thread already, but I could definitely see some coaches doing this.

I'm under 20,000. While I think our response pretty much sucked, and could have been devastating in different circumstances, I'm fairly convinced by the evidence that I'm seeing (looking at actual stats, patterns, noted qualities of the virus, etc) that the virus does spread like wildfire, but isn't nearly as deadly overall as it was initially thought to be.
Never forget.

If I had time on my hands, I'm sure I could dig up plenty of your silly alarmism on the opposite end of the spectrum, but I don't.
Everything's coming up 3TrueFans today it seems then. If you try hard enough and scour the darkest corners of Twitter for made up charts you will eventually be able to prove that you were right that this thing wouldn't kill many people. I believe in you.

Yeah, my made up charts from the CDC and WHO. If you can refute those, go ahead.
