Big 12 8-bit Marching Bands

Can we all agree that Okie State has the lamest fight song though? It sounds like a little kids carnival....

Based on hearing it hundreds of times at football games and the Big 12 basketball tournament, the waving (waltz) part is usually an after-PAT thing. The other 2/3 is their "regular" fight song.

They are very, very similar. I think you might even be able to swap them word for word and the music still works. Not 100% sure on that though.

I understand the confusion. I grew up an Iowa fan, but dropped that when I accepted my ISU acceptance. Shortly after I picked up a keychain that played the ISU fight song. Up to that point I had never heard ISU Fights, so when I played it I asked myself "Why the **** is this playing the Iowa fight song?" It wasn't until later that I realized while the tunes are similar, there are differences. ISU Fights is much more uptempo, for one.

Good mascots are annoying by their very nature. Ask Bevo about Uga. So, if Willie annoys ISU fans, that's a good thing.

oSu's fight song is very cowboy to my ear. Naturally, I find Ku's to be carnival-like comical. Plus, their band has miles to go.

Nah, great band, great stadium, great fans, great mascot.

Nice that we got Cy in the band, but couldn't we get Cy and a tuba player?

I’ve gotta give boomer a vote here as they play their song 96x per quarter. I’d also flip that stupid wagon like a car at VEISHEA.

The ISU fight song was written in 1930 and the EIU fight song was written in 1951. Maybe like the Chinese, they no steal, they copy.

If I remember my marching band lore correctly, Meredith Wilson (of The Music Man fame) actually wrote fight songs for both ISU and Iowa. Iowa made it their primary fight song, while ISU decided that they liked the one they already had, and bumped 'For I, For S, Forever' to a secondary song (Song #4 during pregame, and after successful PATs)

Didn't know it was this carefully scripted. Where could I get a complete list of songs and when they are played during football games?

I've been to Manhattan 4 times and all 4 times the fans have been great. The atmosphere has been great (besides last fall's godawful weather). Tradition has been great. That being said, yes the mascot antics are the among the dumbest.

I've never been colder than at that game last fall. My gosh.

I've never been prouder of my 8 year old son than I was that night. We went with a group of about 8 of us and my son complained the least. He just understood that's the risk in going to ball games.

Best part of the night: old lady stands up and her seat cushion goes FLYING. The 40 mph wind gusts just sent it sailing. So she's running after it and then the wind direction changes course and starts going the opposite way LOL
