Solve this equation

PEMDAS: Parentheses left to right, then Exponents left to right, then Multiplication and Division left to right then Addition and Subtraction left to right. I didn't work through the problem to the numerical answer, but PEMDAS is the convention that all math follows.

this is true, but it gives an ugly answer. (5.5+1.666-1)

if you do it left to right ignoring that it comes out to 1

so if probably just a bad question.

Based on the dashes under the equation, I agree, the answer they want is 1.

You have to get into fractions to get a simpler answer, which is just 6 1/6

I think you guys are assuming order of operation and not that this is a sequence. If it had an equal sign at the end and didn’t have individual spaces beneath for the answer following each step sequence then...

That may have been what they were going for but that's still not how you solve the equation. It just means that someone on the survivor production team doesnt know how math works.
