I'm really, really excited about this class. Blackwell seems like a guy who will make an immediate impact from sheer energy.
He has some real bounce. Probably the most explosive athlete we have had on the wing since Burton.
And Much needed length. Add Conditt, Johnson, and Young, and we’ll be a lot longer.
It’s hard to project the impact. The one I think is the least ready (Walker) is at a position of need. The highest rated has two upperclassmen to compete with.
Interesting they have Walker as a 4 star at 80 grade just behind Blackwell's 81 grade. There ESPN evaluators must have close to the top 100.
(they also list Walker at 6'2" so could get that +1 bump if they know he's grown 2 inches
Dubar is 78 btw but I suspect they haven't truely evaluated him.)

Big difference in rankings between 6’2” guards and 6’4”.
I’m not sure why I’m so high on Dubar. Some may say he’s a less athletic Blackwell. But I think he’s got just enough outside shooting and handle to be an immediate effective 3/4. And if it’s true he’s grown, even better! Although that 7’2 wingspan of Blackwell is hard to beat.
Great recognition but ESPN sucks when it comes to recruiting rankings. They just don’t have the people in place to do all the evaluations like 247 and Rivals.
There it is, surprised "ESPN ranks suck" post took that long...
I agree to take ESPN grades are the less accurate than Rivals/247 and other services and should be treated as such. In the end the ESPN ranks do factor into the 247 consensus that is the best to compare prospects so shouldn't be dismissed.
Still I'd rather have them rank ISU commits high rather than not see them.
Cool to see the high rankings of this class to give us some future hope. I really hope somebody in there can shoot the rock. You don't realize how much ISU has depended on having shooters in the past until you don't have any of them. While Fred's first year clearly lacked in talent, at least we had a couple guys who could still shoot the ball, which kept things interesting. Having practically zero guys who could shoot the ball this past year nearly made my eyes bleed watching. We would have been better off starting a brick-laying construction business for the year. The year also greatly negated the value we had in having such a good point guard when he had nobody to kick the ball out to. Such a waste.

Your Rivals check is in the mail?
I assume they don’t just do these randomly? When successful coaches paid millions to evaluate have misses in most classes, I’m not terribly concerned about the difference between the rankings services.
These things all need to be taken as weather forecasts, Rivals 7 days out, ESPN a day or two further. I’m glad one of the models is seeing some signs it should be sunny and 75!
The last successful year we shot nearly as poor on 3P was the Kane year. Basically the same 3P% in conference play.
I agree on Dubar, I think while he's not as big physically as THT, his game reminds of me of him. He has great balance, really uses his body well and has good length. A cliche would be that he's got a "mature game", I think like THT, that will translate to the college game from day 1.

24/7 lists Walker at 6'5???
That team was #3 in the conference in ORTG.
It was also #5 in the conference in DRTG.
(...which brings me back to my point that I doubt a team that was not in the top two in either metric in the B12 was somehow going to win a national championship, or even make it to the Final Four, but that is another conversation...)
They were solid on both ends of the floor, though.

You do not need to have elite outside shooting to have a good offense if you are good at other things, such as not turning the ball over, shooting a solid % from 2PT, or drawing a lot of free throws and making them when you take them.
But you do need to not be fugly on defense to be competitive.
Not that it matters in our league, but of the new guys coming in, who are the best defenders?
