The Georgia model isn't the one. That one is basically flipping a switch and pretending none of this ever happened or that the virus still doesn't exist.

My version would be encouraging restaurants to continue takeout and curbside but allowing 1/3 capacity in dining rooms for restaurants that seat over 60. Restaurants smaller than that would remain takeout only.

Allow movie theaters to open at half capacity with regulations on social distancing between groups of people that don't live in the same household.

Encourage businesses to stay work from home but allowing things like bank lobbys to re-open if they choose to with clearly defined social distancing guidlines.

Allow hospitals, clinics and dentist offices to resume appointments and elective procedures with guidelines on PPE usage.

Just some examples. There are things you can do, especially in rural areas, to get things going again.

I don't disagree with any of this - yet you still think I want to "shut everything down forever".

The details are important and in general most people (except those out protesting and those in certain elected positions) will agree with a common sense plan that is reasonable and driven by data - but the key in my opinion is that the plan must be clear - the flexibility must be explained - and expectations must be set.

Someone at some level needs to explain that we don't have the answers - we're all going to figure this out as we go and we'll adjust as we get more information. There will be bumps - people will still get sick and die - but we can ease some restrictions as long as everyone buys in.

A friend called me this AM who knew two people who were tested as part of the Prestage outbreak and were both positive. And shocked they were positive. As in never had a single symptom.

Yeah and it's something businesses can adjust to for new systems.

A spot I get take out regularly is usually not very busy when I go and it's been there for a really long time. If I've gotten take out from there over the last month, there's probably as many to-go orders ready on a table as there has been tables seated when I've been there and it looked like it was similarly staffed.

We've only done takeout once a week and Dairy Queen once a week and it's been packed when we've gone. We've always done takeout more often than we ate in a restaurant - and we'll only do that for a long time. I think making to-go orders easier (on-line ordering, curbside, etc) is a good innovation for many places

I think you will find almost universal agreement here. I think at the same time that those pushing a bit more for faster easing need to call out the protestors those that are pushing a bit more for a cautious approach need to call out some certain health officials and people that want to have shutdowns for months. Neither of those solutions are tenable and just leads to divisiveness.

I'd be fine things staying shut down for another few weeks. That would be my preference.

But because people are stupid, we will open things up soon. The plan that I was responding to sounds like a reasonable start up plan which is very different than the start up plan by Georgia. If we are going to start up, I'd prefer that plan vs. the Georgia plan. And I'd like to know what plan Kim is considering for when she does start up.

I will say, I can’t imagine Kim opening up fast like Texas and Georgia. She has been lenient in a lot of this, but I just can’t see her jumping to opening things up quickly. Especially now we’re about to ramp up testing soon.
