Thad Matta - ISU Head Coach next year

There is a group of fans that have dislike Prohm from the minute he was hired because they thought we deserved a "name" hire, or just want Hoiberg back. As they say, you never want to be the guy that follows a legend.
This. At the time Prohm was hired, there was a lot of talk about how hard it would be to follow a "savior" type coach, who additionally was a legendary player. I didn't think much of it, and didn't think it would be an issue.

However, it was immediately apparent in Prohm's first season, at the first sign of mistakes from him, that there was going to be a group of fans that would despise him. The people would get on here, ***** about his strategies, and would despise him for inconsequential things like his lip licking. There was never a chance those fans would come around. They were the same type of fans that bitched about how many times Campbell checked his watch in his opening loss to UNI.

It’s ridiculous to see some posters bending themselves into pretzels to blame other posters for not liking Prohm. There is no ulterior motive here and the argument that fans just hated poor Prohm from the start and won’t give him a chance is a load of BS. It’s all about results. It’s all about winning. And it’s about showing you know how to coach on the floor, assemble a roster, and develop players. Prohm just isn’t cutting in.

Yes, there were those fans from the start of Prohm's tenure. He's lost a hell of a lot more of us since then.

I'd buy that argument if we weren't constantly reminded by those fans that Prohm's first 2 seasons were with Fred's players, so he shouldn't get credit for them.

He's had 3 really good seasons and 2 awful ones. If next year is bad again, then I'll agree it's time for a change.

I get that. I'm included. I just hate those thumping their chest that think they got it right. Nobody really knew this season would be bad. Almost everybody had high confidence in this roster just 2 months ago.

Sorry man, but in the game of college basketball recruiting is 75% of the battle. It is absolutely correct to evaluate his first two seasons in the context of the situation he inherited.... the same way we would evaluate a coach who took over an empty roster after a coaching change.

Really? None of my friends had that high confidence. We were hoping that if everything fell right we’d be a bubble team and sneak in as a high seed.

The difference it would have made to have either Lindell or THT back is hard to overstate.
Love your takes Pride - 95% agree with them. Also, want Prohm to success but not looking good. THT got his money - good for him. But Lard and Wiggy were run off this team. They could have been here this season. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes but that was a coaching decision. IMHO, the in game coaching and personnel moves this past 4 years has not been sound. I think he gets another year but if we don't get to the NCAA next year we need to move on. We are and always should be a top half B12 contender and make the NCAA 3 of every 4 tourneys minimum and be a threat to make a run to sweet 16.

That's fair if you also give Prohm a pass for his 3rd year which was a result of the massive roster turnover he was left with.

Because the trajectories of Iowa State football and Iowa State basketball are similar....

One took a historically lifeless program and turned it into a respectable winner. And the other took a program at its peak it program history and turned it into a bottom tier Big 12 team.

I just gotta get this off my chest, Norman Dale didn't run the picket fence. That play was all Shooter. So if he's not coming with Coach Dale, it's a hard pass for me.

I’m not dealing with another alcoholic coach

I think sneaking into the tournament was the goal since the beginning of the season. I don't think anyone ever expected this team to compete for the Big 12, or be a top 6 seed.

I would estimate fans' confidence was the highest after the Seton Hall game, which was December 8th.

I wasn't comparing the two programs. I was comparing some fans' dumb overreactions to inconsequential things like lip licking and watch checking.

CSP is bad and people defending him should feel bad. We get it. His contract means we're stuck with him for another year even though his ass should be fired. I have to laugh at people complaining about people calling him out. What do you think would happen when people paid good money to watch this dumpster fire? I've been to every home game the last 7 years and will call a spade a spade no matter what anyone else thinks about it.

I have no idea how they'll be. We won't have to be .500 in the league to be on the bubble next season though. We weren't .500 in 2015 but I believe we got a 4 seed. And no I'm not saying we'll be a 4 seed.
I'll bet anyone that we aren't .500 in the conference nor an NCAA tournament team next year. Name the bet. I'll happily lose.
I have no idea why being on the bubble is a topic. You either make it or you don't.
