Random Thoughts 14: I can see clearly now 2020 edition

One of the gas stations in my town switched from Citgo to BP last year. They are trying to get everyone to pay at the pump or prepay. My boss doesn't like that since we have to use 4 pumps at once sometimes. We never know how much fuel we are going to get, so prepaying is not an option. He doesn't use his card because he said it locks if he uses it on too many pumps at once. Luckily the morning attendant inside knows us and let's us pay after.

I now remember the realtor saying that the in vogue thing is house warranties. Not sure what that means, she said if there is an issue that somebody pays $75 bucks and everything is covered for like six months.

I will now say that I now see what the big deal about first generation college degree people is about. (I’m one but it never landed until dealing with my kids). I see these people at visits and orientations very confused and disoriented somewhat. That was me. When my son has had trouble he will text me and I can either help him or tell him where to seek help. That would have been fabulous.

Also, my advisors basically sucked royally while at ISU. I had no clue what was going on and only one ever reached out to me to try to help. My HS ones were the same way. Sometimes I’m amazed I even ended up at college with my HS advisor and then graduated with my college ones. My kids’ HS one doesn’t get the big picture either. He is all about feelings and not getting things lined up for school.

Well the deductible is $75 per issue. It is hit and miss but very nice to have as a buyer IMO. We have used it numerous times for various things (broken gas regulator on oven, worn out water heater at house in KS etc.) but it can be hard to get them to cover things.

It has been a few years (15+) since we bought so I am foggy on details. The sellers and/or their realtor threw in a home warranty that I think was 1 year. I remember at least two things that it covered in that time - I'm not sure if there were others. We had a circuit board go out on the built in microwave so they replaced the board. We had the garbage disposal start leaking because it was corroded. They replaced the whole disposal. Those two alone were worth the warranty because I am sure we paid for it in our purchase price.

It's good that someone at the station can use some common sense and keep a good account there.

Now if we could just get common sense instilled in the people who block the diesel pump when there are 5 other pumps open. The diesel pump is right next to a regular gasoline pump, and it's the very first pump when you pull in. It's designed that way to get trucks with trailers like ours in, but so many people use it because of convenience.

It actually works well for us because we can fill the truck (gas) and chipper (diesel) at the same time, when no idiots are blocking it of course.

One time I tried to put gas in my motorcycle in Laramie Wy. It didn't have pay at the pump and he wanted me to tell him how much I wanted. I said I wanted to fill it so I didn't know. I gave him a 20 and said just let me fill it and you can give me the change. Nope, he wanted an exact amount so I rode into town where there was a modern pump that took credit cards

You know, you really taught me a lesson on that one. I'm very careful about not using that station unless it is the only one available. So you got at least ONE convert. :D

I generally don't pull up to the diesel pump unless there are no other pumps available. At that point, I figure diesel users will have to wait just like any other user.

On a parallel note, my brother told me a story about how he had a guy in a wheelchair loudly chew him out in a public restroom because he used the larger handicap stall. My brother pointed out that it was the only stall available when he entered so he used it. The guy in the wheelchair said that it didn't matter, that stall was only for those with special needs and he shouldn't have used it. That attitude was rather bold. The ADA provides for many things that help those with special needs have a similar experience as all of the rest of us. I like to say the opportunity for the handicap stall to be in use and all of the special needs seating at an event being sold out are just a part of that same experience we all get to enjoy.

I know I went way off topic, that wasn't what you were saying about the diesel pump; it just got me to thinking about it.

EDIT: I used to also often use the handicap stall when I was taking a child in the restroom. Often there isn't room for a parent and child in the regular stalls.

When I spent 6 weeks in a wheelchair after my foot surgery I would wheel myself into the bathrooms at Hilton. One time I was working my way toward the stall, and three young children (elementary age) when running past me, straight into the wheelchair stall. Their mother walked past me, looked at me, shrugged her shoulders and went into the stall with her kids.

After I picked my jaw up off the floor I wheeled down to the one at the other end. I heard a couple of women chewing her out through the door as I moved away, and it made me smile. :D

Well, called the realtor because inspector left lights on, had heat turned up to 69 (was set at 51/52), stuff yanked in the way, and locked a door we don’t have a key for. Thankfully the back door was open and I could get in there.

Came back with a couple small trivial things. Said the 13 year old roof had 1-5 years of life and some dirt could be used in a spot. (I think that is the garage area). I pulled the @BoxsterCy and said it’s as it sits and I’m not negotiating anymore. See if they give me the pitiful earnest money or finish the deal.
