Just adding a little perspective here for our forum users...

Matt really wanted to bring in an older, experienced mind to the offensive room to help mentor all of the young coaches on that side of the ball. That's what this hire is about. McCall is a guy Campbell credits much his success to and thinks he can help be that to many of the guys on that side of the staff room. He won't be the OC but he's a guy that Manning will have at his disposal to bounce things off of 24/7.

Goes pretty deep here. I love the hire.

I think that's great!

Looks like the two were at Bowling Green at the same time? Interested to see what kind of wrinkles McCall will add.

Can't imagine you or even the staff know the answer CW but wonder if he'd be in the press box during the game, seems like a likely landing spot for someone acting as an Offensive consultant.

It seemed like Golesh was always right by his side during games so I assume some coach will need to fill that role, whether it’s McCall or not.

I would bet that Manning and McCall are in the booth. Because having his experienced set of eyes up there would be a bonus.

I’m impressed with his ability to make adjustments this year. If I had one minor complaint about him over the last several years it would be that he’s slow to adjust. But he’s made some changes this year.

Curious about the slow to adjust comment. I remember watching their 2018 team struggle early which included a loss to Akron and a 0-4 start. I think they were down to their 3rd string running back and they made some major changes to fit their personnel. They then went 8-2 with the 2 losses being to Nortre Dame who made the playoff and Ohio State in the Big Championship game. Up until this season I always thought they out performed their talent level.

yeah, I’m probably not expressing myself well. I’m thinking more on personnel. Personally I’ve never been a huge manning guy. I think it’s stupid to call for his firing (as MANY were on here after the bowl game) but I haven’t seen the appeal. But I trust Campbell. I guess this shows me that Campbell sees some need for different voices.

The offense wasn't why they went 8-2 that year, in 6 of those wins they kept their opponent under 20 points. NW has always been a defensive minded team that prefers low possession, low scoring games, seems like a weird fit in our league but he's just the RB coach, it's not like he'll be running the offense. I don't think the hire is anything to get excited about but I totally get why CMC would bring in someone he's familiar with for this type of role.

This is what is being referred to as the "Quarterback SNEAK." As you can see, the QB actually lines up under center, and together they push for a short gain as needed. Cutting edge stuff right here, but I think we can pull it off.

We were going to lose that game anyways. :P

I'd say in general they have outperformed talent, but even the years they have won, their offense has not been all that great, and their avg. recruit ranking has been higher than ISUs consistently. Throw in the 5-star QB transfer from Clemson, and there is enough talent there. Maybe last year was an anomaly, but holy **** their offense was terrible. To compare - NW ran more plays per game than ISU and put up about 150 fewer yards per game. Pretty amazing.
