Has Campbell Plateaued?

Game strategy - CMC does go for it sometimes on 4th down, but, overall, is extremely conservative in all we do. Having no willingness to put the QB under center in short-yardage and goal-line situations also boggles the mind.

At times it was weird in that we were conservative when it seemed more appropriate to be more aggressive... but then at other times we weren't conservative when we shouldve just been keeping it simple (such as in some of the short yardage situations)

I don't follow recruiting as closely as I should, but am I correct in that CMC has had a better recruiting class each year? If so, I doubt he has leveled off yet.

With CPR we would never get above 3 conference wins. With CMC we feel pretty good about getting in the top half of the conference.

I would love to see us get a killer year in within the next 2 years. Thinking along the line of a 9 or 10 win season is the next step.

He started in a chasm that is ISU football, it is a long long long climb out..

Need to focus on o-line play

He had 2 bad years because of the recruiting hole that Fry left. By year 4 he had them in the Orange Bowl.
Yep and after 21 years in a sport where continuity is vital, a program with tradition, ton of cash, and playing in what has been one of the weakest power conference divisions Ferentz averages 7.7 wins per year. In the past three years MC has averaged 7.7 wins. You want to give Ferentz a mulligan on year one he averages 8 wins.
I am probably as much a Ferentz admirer as an ISU fan can be, but people need to stop listening to the delusional Iowa fans that claim their floor is 8-9 wins with the occasional 10-11 win season sprinkled in. It's not reality.

I think it is still incredibly hard to recruit to ISU. Great school, nice campus, great facilityies but probably too rural and cold for a lot of guys. He’s done a nice job of recruiting and some more quality wins and maybe he’ll get more of those 4 star guys that you need to compete at a high level.

It's not always just the place though. The 'it's a fun town so recruits love it' thing doesn't sound all that great when you look at places like IC and Madison who had bad to average football teams until their 'saviors' came along and made them decent.

It's the vision and identity of the program.

You are misinformed and/or ignorant. Ferentz did not start well out of the gate and for all the 'greatness' you seem to elude, he had some pretty bad years by your same standards. So, either, get better informed, stow your pride and ego and bring a level headed objective argument to the table.
I think you may be misinformed as well. Kirk inherited a bad Iowa team, went 1-10 his first year and by year 4 started a 3 year streak of 10+ wins. As much as I want I am having a tough time seeing 10+ wins upcoming given how we closed out this season and struggled with details, OL, and ST play.

I don't expect 10+ even every 4th year, but just once would love to see an ISU team perform above everyone's expectations.

I'd say 2017 and 2018 were this, which made 2019 seem like underperforming.

So you are saying our ceiling is an 8 win team. Just want to make sure I understand.

Did I say that?

I'm saying in 2017 and 2018 ISU likely overachieved. I think they even went beyond where they were picked by Vegas for wins...it was like 5 wins in 2017 and 6 in 2018, and I think 7 this year.

ISU's ceiling is maybe 10 wins with better fundamentals but that probably still means they're overachieving. They were poor fundamentally this season, and 7 was the result.
