Football Season Postmortem

You know more about Iowa than I do. Your posts prove it. A look in the mirror would tell a different story.

ISU alum and supporter since the early 80s. I have ISU memorabilia hanging on the walls of my house. I’m just critical of our teams when they play stupid so that makes me a bad fan in your eyes. Whatever...troll.

Knowing more about Iowa than most Iowa fans isn't hard to do. Everyone knows you're an Iowa fan, give it up

I was thinking he is ISUFan22. Haven't seen him in a while and he did this same exact crap Cat does, although he didn't go as crazy. Uses the same exact insults too

Very well could be. He caught a lot of heat with his posting while linking his photography company in his signature. Would make sense as to why he created an alt so he could keep getting the same sick satisfaction while protecting his career.

Possible, but 22 tries to sell tickets on here every once in awhile. I mean he could have 2 handles. God 22 was an as s hat

My diploma. Let’s see yours.
You can easily find one on internet. Give it up. By the way, I also have a degree from Iowa but it doesn’t mean I am a Hawkeye fan. I also have Iowa College of Pharmacy water bottles and Iowa T-shirt.

Disappointing, but I'm fine with 7 wins being disappointing right now. Campbell raised the bar around here. That's nothing but good.
I am disappointed with being fine about being disappointed yet smugly happy with 7 wins being disappointing. It is an unsettling feeling. I think I will go and visit that bar that Campbell raised.

Bill Snyder was 5-6 his fourth year.

Bill McCartney was 6-6 his 5th year.

Closest examples to what Iowa State is.

but this team sucks because they won 7 games and had a winning record in conference play.

McCartney and Snyder were happening nearly 30 years ago. The CFB landscape is significantly different now. How many active P5 coaches have losing records in year 4 and beyond?

Yeah - this is where I am at. I think the most disappointing thing is the fact that I believed much of the pre-season hype. Based on that metric, we were the 2nd most over-rated team in the Big12 this year (Texa$ being numero uno). The most disheartening losses, imo, were the OSU game and last night's. These were the two games on our schedule that I believed would be sure wins (OU, TOE, and BU were the ones I was the most unsure about) & is why I thought we would be at least a 9-3 team during the regular season.
A BIG, HUGE turd was laid by the special teams and offense last night. Winning the TO battle, in a closely contested game, should have been enough for us to win last night. But when the Special Teams and Offensive units are subpar, and a deeper team allows their opponent to "out-physical" them, that is INCREDIBLY disappointing. In some ways, this reminds me so much of last year's Texas game. They came out as the aggressor - wanting to seize a higher place in the conference (better bowl, etc) & we showed up as a bunch of wimps. At least UT played up to the talent they had last year. KSU, this year? Well-coached - but we should NEVER have been soooo man-handled. Completely embarrassing.

KSU's best about midseason when they beat OU etc. was better than ISU's best all season and KSU seemed to find that mode last night in how they played.

ISU continued about where they were last week.

I just hope we make good adjustments this coming year. I saw three big things that killed us.

#1 was slow starts. There was only one game this season where we started off particularly well, and that was Tech. 5 scoreless first quarters. A total of 42 points scored in the first quarters all season.

#2 was false starts late in the game. I don't know how many false starts we got called on us in the 4th quarter when we needed to make a game-winning drive, but there were a lot. I am not sure if there is a certain count we switch to late-game, but if there is, it wasn't working.

#3 was contain defense. I started to notice it especially towards the end of the year. We were missing assignments all over the place. We couldn't get off our blocks, or just flat-out missed tackles.

If we fix these things, we should be OK for next year.

Overall 7-5 is great.

This was one of the softest Big12 conferences in a long time. There will only be 2 ranked teams to close the regular season. Someone brought up the 05 team - I agree. And that year the Big 12 had 4 teams end up in the final AP Poll.

If there was a year to hit 10 wins, this would have been it. Missed opportunity but still a great year.
SP+ says that this is the best Big 12 of the last few years. TCU finished 5-7 and was still 38th.

A great example of "**** happens" is TCU and KSU. KSU is 46th in SP+, and finished 8-4. ISU finished 23rd. The record is what it is--it's what you play the game for--but if we replayed this season 100 times I think we do better than 7-5 on average.
