Student Section on the Field During Delay

Now that most people are over the knee jerk overreactions to the loss and whined about everything under the sun, I was wondering what people's thoughts, reactions, and opinions were to the students going onto the field during the Iowa game.

I was not inside the stadium when it happened and just heard John Walter's call on it. He was pretty disgusted.

At first I figured it was like 5-10 students who did this from the radio call, but today I saw someone's video and it looked like a majority of the student section spilled out.

It looked pretty bad, both in terms of respect from the student section, and poor security not stopping it to the point it got, however I have to admit that back in the day if I was a student during this, I'd sadly probably be right out there too.

How was the reaction inside the stadium? How long were they actually on the field and how was it managed/received?

Testifying
Makes you wonder if the students assumed the game was getting called and they just said eff it.

Still not an excuse to do it but it doesnt really bug me one way or the other.

Ya, I heard some of the students ran on the field during the long downpour when the stadium emptied out.

Side note- cause I don’t know where to post it.

I saw a Iowa fan, barely able to stand up, urinate right outside the southwest concourse box seat doors.

The security guard basically just stood there and laughed with a few Iowa fans until another older security guard ran over and grabbed the guy. Not sure he even got arrested as I just said WTF and kept walking.

There were maybe a couple hundred, not the majority of the student section. I did see one student that was on the field hop up into the SEZ section and quickly get escorted away by security. It's a bunch of drunk 18-22 year olds, who cares.

I got a kick out of sanctimonious Iowa fans on Twitter calling for a penalty. I'm also curious of whether word of a cancellation was spreading, since they were openly talking about that likelihood on the radio broadcast.

But that shouldn't excuse it either. It's a lot like VEISHEA in that sense...bad choices by a relative few are going to make the entire institution look bad.

Perhaps more importantly...if the game is delayed by lightning for people's safety, what the students still doing in the stands to begin with?

So Barta wasn't happy, huh? Like he was when the Iowa fan stole stuff from their locker room? He did realize there were Iowa fans out on the field too, right?

It was a bunch of drunk students from both teams. Security should have done better, but everyone was told to head for shelter because of incoming hail... including security.

I was in the stadium and everyone around me including myself was kinda laughing until we realized it probably meant the game was cancelled. I'd be curious to hear Walter's call and why he was disgusted. Should they have done it? No. Is it a big deal that they did? No.

If I'm 21 and there's a rain delay and people run out on the field...

1. Slam that beer you snuck in the stadium.
2. Run around on the field.

Stupid but that's how a college mind works sometimes. And unless they were wearing cleats, they probably didn't effect the field all that much in the time they were down there.

A bit stupid but the reactions to this are more stupid. No it shouldn’t have been a penalty and no it shouldn’t have been a forfeit. It was a result of a weird situation because security had to leave the field because of the hail.

I clicked on the tweet and it appears Millers tweet was simply in regards to the weather and field conditions, not wanting to cancel over students on the field. At least that's what all the responses would indicate. No mention of the students.

Because they dont actually make people leave and because the student section isnt assigned seating so no one wanted to lose their spots, especially those who had been in line early for those.

Hawk fans are very butthurt about this. Chris Hassel was crying for a 15 yard penalty over it.

They're doing a LOT of whining and crying for the team that won the game.

Probably because they all realize ISU outplayed them by nearly every measure. I don't know why else they would all be whining and crying today?

I know why they're there. What I meant was, how is it that they are allowed to remain there in those circumstances?

They should make these a mandatory evacuation. Maybe it was but when you are under the upper deck all you hear is the teacher from Charlie Brown.
