Jim Walden is crazy... like a fox. After all the flack he took from the national and local sports media after picking Florida #1 I wonder if he'll get any apologies after this beatdown of tOSU.

I still don't think that he's a genius, but I do think everyone that was picking tOSU to roll looks pretty silly.
 
I was gettin ready to post the same thing.
Marty and Miller need to chow on some serious crow. They bashed him pretty hard on this....
 
He still may be a bit crazy, but it is great to see a little vindication for Walden. He seems like a nice guy.

I'm sure this has been mentioned by someone, but at least Jim Walden had enough guts to not be lead around like a bunch of sheep.

Good for him!

Am I the only one that thinks he just got lucky and that his vote wasn't really for Florida, but against the OSU-Michigan rematch?
 
He would have voted for any SEC team that was even remotely close because he thought the Big X was pretty bad this year.

Nice Guy? I guess you don't remember all the ISU and DMac bashing he has done after he was replaced.
 
Cotlar was saying that he talked to Walden last night and Walden was already getting apologies called to him from the pressbox in Arizona last night. They also replayed Walden's original part of his interview where he mentioned that everyone is stuck on OSU and Michigan while Florida played a much tougher schedule than anyone in the Little 11 and finished 12-1. Yes he is a big SEC supporter, but we all know that we have had similar thoughts to the Little 11 schedule or should I say supposed Big 2 and the other 9.
 
Nice article about it off the front page of espn.com. (Not linking, trying to follow the rules :) ) Only guy to vote them #1 in the Harris pole. Personally I think Walden could have had success at ISU if he would have had the same support his successor got financially. I mean everyone complains about ISU from a budget perspective but it pales in comparison to what Walden inherited.
 
Cotlar was basically glorifying him this morning it seems like. I'm sorry but Walden is still an idiot and even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in ahwile. ESPN jumped on the bandwagon too with a front page link and they ripped him when he first made the pick.

I guess this makes my roommate a genius too for picking Florida (although at very low point confidence) in his bowl pick'ems too right? Sorry but NO ONE saw this coming, especially a 41-14 score. You can't possibly justify putting an undefeated team in 3rd and a 1 loss team in first like Walden did at the time. In hindsight he looks good now but no one would even have mentioned a word about Walden had OSU won this game.

I agree. Walden did way more with way less that is for sure.

Walden was supporting his belief that the SEC was the best conference in the land. Florida's "one loss" was at #11 Auburn in a game they were controlling (ahead 17-11) until a blocked punt was returned for a TD (see Pontiac National Play of the Year).

If you objectively look at the opponents Florida played on their way to 12-1 versus OSU on their way to 12-0, and throw in the fact that UF had to play in a conference championship game while OSU didn't, it's not a stretch!

What was the Big Ten's Bowl record and what was the SEC's bowl record? Is there any doubt the SEC was the toughest conference from top to bottom?

See, I would not have a problem with his explanation if he had been voting Florida #1 anytime prior to this. But he had been voting OSU #1 all season then drops them to #3 when they hadn't even played a game. That's just plain stupid (again this referring to when this happened and not knowing what we know now.)

I'm not doubting the SEC proved they were tougher in the bowl games but back before the bowls started we did not have the luxury of knowing what is to come.

Then by that logic Boise State should be number one, right?

They're not because Florida is a better team and played a tougher schedule. Sounds like the same argument Walden made for voting the Gators over OSU.

Nah, he explained why he voted them number one and it made alot of sence. They played the toughest schedule in the nation in the toughest conference. They had the same number of wins as Ohio State, their one loss was due to their special teams, and they beat many more quality teams then the Buckeyes. Although I would of voted Ohio State number 1 because of the undeafeated season, I think Florida was an easy vote for number 2, and think Walden made a reasonable argumnet for why he voted Florida #1
