Bates' father speaks out

Pretty much supports that argument that daddy Bates has got the Bates blinders one. Ya, call out coach Chizik for calling him a quitter and then offer no reason why you just made the call telling him he was quitting. What a *******!!

When asked why he left the team, daddy Bates says "Why do you think?". That tells me all I need to know.

Has a Waco byline because Andrew Logue, the author, is in Waco right now, getting ready to cover the ISU-Baylor game.
 
It's unfortunate that this has all been Bates senior saying all of this. I still have the feeling Phillip is more classy but it's hard to gage when your father is saying such dumb **** to the media. I'd really be interested to find out how much was phillip wanting to leave and how much was his dad in his ear about how he should be the starter.

As I have said before, I deal with people based on my experience with them. I know of nothing from either my own experience or words from others that leads me to think Gene Chizik is a liar. And I think Phillip Sr. is broaching that ground here.

We've dealt with parents like this before, and I doubt this will turn bad for ISU at all.

I think there might be some truth to this, and it would hardly be the first time.

If one of my children is lucky enough to excel at athletics...and if I ever act like this, will someone please slap me?
 
From what I've heard, his dad did NOT want Phillip to be redshirted last season. If they redshirtted him, he would transfer. Kinda a no win on that. Now blame Iowa State?
 
Kind of ironic that the phrase on this year's football poster was:

"I am a warrior. A member of the team. I am physically and mentally tough. I never quit."

funny how quiet the board has been all night until this. lol, we were all just sitting here waiting to jump on a fun thread.

I just worry about Bates Sr. turning this into a big distraction for the team.
 
The player has to agree to take off the RS. If PB didn't want to play, no one forced him to. The staff asked him to and he agreed. I still think that if he wants to see the NFL, he'd better get used to playing another position.

As for calling the QBs even, of course they weren't. That's because Arnaud was a BETTER QB. He earned the extra snaps.

PB should be a little wary of taking his dad's advice. He's getting steered in the wrong direction. If you leave a team in the middle of the season, what else do you call it but quitting?

Your being lenient on yourself.:wink:.... If I ever act like that if I have a child excel in athletics, I want somebody to take me hunting.

He's a total emberassment to his family.
