I think after taking the club from last place one season to b12 tourney champs the next is an accomplishment that doesn’t get talked about enough. I know they benefited from Wv upsetting TT and Wade was out for Kst but it’s still 3 wins in 3 days against NCAA tournament teams and by the way beat Baylor who he probably has a losing record against since coaching here. I think he has earned the right to be given the chance to evolve as a coach and improve next year with the core we have. He has the ability to get talent here which is probably 75% of the job so let’s not make it harder to get talent here in the next 3 years by being a school who rewards improvement by firing a coach after winning conference tournament championships (2 in 3 years BTW) and a tournament bid after a last place finish the year before. That’s insane unless you want to fight at the bottom of the conference standings the next 3 years.

Could you imagine the national media perception of this AD if they did that?

He shouldn’t be fired and he won’t be fired. And a 1-2 year extension with a slight bump in pay makes sense. But I don’t want to see a 4-5 extension with a raise to $3 million a year (Top 20 coach) either at this point until I see improvement in the in-game adjustments. I don’t think his performance in 4 years merits that he is a Top 20 coach in America.

I don’t think I’ve seen anybody say he should be paid like a top 20 coach. I’ve seen plenty of people calling for him to be fired. Like the creator of this thread.

Sure, just read through this thread again. You've been on full defense mode of Prohm for a week.

Holy ****. That’s why you’re whining? You actually asserted that they ran an inbounds play at the end of a close game to purposely catch the ball in the corner where Maryal would also be guarded by the baseline.

You didn’t account for any other motions and options on the play. You think that he drew up a play at the end of a one possession game that would have an even higher likelihood of a turnover, and he did it on purpose.

You omitted that coaches can’t call timeouts anymore in these situations (unless you’re Ohio state I guess), and that the senior should have had the presence of mind to know he needed to call said timeout.

I’m sorry you were so mortified, and offended for being accountable for an illogical and wrong take, but at least put some thought into it.

Just curious what are your qualifications for accurately critiquing a P5 D1 coach’s in game adjustment ability?

You know what, I'm going to see if I can pull that play, go through it person by person just to prove how huge of an ass you are. Shayok was the point person to get the ball as Prohm thought KSU was going to foul immediately. It was a terrible play and you refuse to admit it

No he won’t be fired because adults run the ad.

If you’re looking at results and coaching salaries, he absolutely is underpaid by quite a bit.

Let me ask you a question regarding the 15-16 season. Up until the NCAA Tournament did you think that team underachieved or overachieved with a 10-8 record in the Big 12 and first round exit to Oklahoma?

If people want to say the only measuring stick is the tournament that is fine but then we need to be consistent on that point. I view the NCAA tournament as just another data point in the year. Which is why I view the 2000-01 and 2014-15 season differently than others. It is also why I think this year was an overall success given the 3 data points and championship in KC.

I would say that team achieved, and split the difference. Without Naz in the lineup or rotation (which Prohm's detractors naturally and conveniently forget every single damn time when they're critical of that season) I think that specific team did about as well as they could.

I agree with you on the "measuring stick" part of your argument. If I had to give this last season a letter grade, it would be a "B". It sucks to have been upset in the NCAA tournament, but the road wins we had plus the Big 12 tournament championship are nothing to be ashamed of.

No, I refuse to be illogical. Out of bounds plays have multiple actions on them. Maryal May have chosen to cut to the path of least resistance to make sure he could catch the ball, but to say that it was specifically drawn up that way isn’t based in fact.

Even Fred, gasp the greatest out of bounds play caller ever, had multiple actions on OOB plays.

Yeah...but you know, "Raise the Standard", or some such drivel like that, right?

The idea that we should move on from Prohm and set our sights higher because of how much Matt Campbell has turned around the football program is one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen on this board. To suggest that the football program when Campbell was hired and the basketball program were at an equal level is a staggeringly dumb thing to believe, and yet there are at least a few posters who have bought into it hook, line, and sinker.

There’s a weird group of people that think that always think we could make a better basketball team from the football team and make a better football team from the wrestling team. I feel like it’s a weird Iowa/white male early late 50’s, early 60’s aged thing.

I’m not a D1 coach so if that is the measuring stick then none of us should ever question the in-game decisions by our coach. And since none of us have been the president of the United States we probably shouldn’t question his decision making. Since most of us having never been a high school teacher we shouldn’t question the method and manner in which are children are taught.

As far as life experiences...my father was a coach, I played basketball through high school, I’ve watched Iowa State religiously for the last 31 years and I’m one of those guys that appreciate analytics, Kenpom, Vegas odds and a really good Double ISO set that CSP ran for LW in the Baylor and Kansas games. But I don’t coach at a Power 5 Division 1 Level so it doesn’t matter.

Since your basketball IQ far exceeds mine I’m assuming that you believe CSP’s in-game offensive sets are high level.[/QUOTE]

He stayed in a holiday inn express last night.

Oh, and the whole must defend Fred at all costs thing too

So you wouldn’t have an issue paying CSP $3 million or more a year and making CSP a Top 20 paid coach?

Sure you can criticize Coach for certain things at times. CouldaWouldaShoulda, yadayada. Ok to be critical, he will learn and get better. But we had a team this year who could beat anybody when on, and lose to anybody when we were not. We were not on Friday. It happens, shots weren't falling, poor defense on Wesson, whatever.

And btw, OP=troll. NO credibility at all w/ your first posts like this, sorry.
