Hoiberg to Huskers

I still think Fred is an NBA guy through-and-through, and will end up in a front office somewhere. The only thing that gives me pause is the money.

What does a front-office guy make? If ithe best role he can get pays $150k, vs $2M/year at Nebby, well then.... a few more years making big coin probably has serious appeal.

As far as coaching, I think Fred is more likely to want to be in the Midwest than say UCLA or even A&M, but then, I don't really know the guy. Just going off my impressions.

I'd be a little bummed if he coached somewhere else in college, but I'm not going to hate the guy for pulling in a 2-comma salary while the getting is good.

I know a number of people who have more money than Fred who keep working...it's part of who they are. Guys like me who want to have that money say they'd travel and do fun stuff...but I think people at the next level think and live differently. This is what makes them able to be more financially successful than most.

No such thing as a type A workaholic who suddenly wants to sit in a barcalounger for the rest of his days. Driven people are driven to DO things.

If you had a choice:

College Station, TX (Weird traditions and all; then annoying Prohm because mentor was fired )
Baton Rouge (possible sanctions -- but, the history)
Lincoln, NE (Hey, Gramps coached there)

A basic premise that holds true is the the more you make, the more you spend. Not everyone, but darn near everyone. I'm not saying you go crazy if you make 50k and bump to 55k. It's the tiers, go from 100k to 250-300k or 500 to 2 MM type bumps. Once you have acclimated yourself to that level, a 3MM dollar home, you don't want to step back and live in a 400k dollar ranch in averagetown.

Fred has a pension from the NBA that he will be getting soon, believe that is at 50. Always told he is frugal with money so there shouldn't be a concern. He has acquired a taste for nicer things and he will find areas that will at minimum look to support it. He owned a Chevy dealership, but that dealership had to go out and buy a Mercedes every time that Fred wanted a different vehicle. Chevys weren't nice enough. That dealership was not excited when Fred traded. Try selling a used Mercedes in small town Iowa, you have to make it work since he owns the joint. Anybody who can afford a Mercedes, will drive a new Mercedes so used has a large drop, especially in a small town.

Little oddity, when Fred was getting going in the pros, he sold the rights to his name, his name...... Not sure if there was a time limit, but now that anyone uses "Fred Hoiberg" in a licensing type thing, someone else gets the change.

Also if I were to get divorced, Halle Berry would be the front-runner to be my next wife. When contacted, Halle said she's unclear if she would take the role.

Agree; Fred would be the 'frontrunner" for many current openings (Nebby, TAM, LSU etc).
I'll put myself out there as I did yesterday; Fred to Nebby is a ridiculous rumor

Is it possible to be both grateful for what Fred did for us and happy with who we have now? Or do we have to pick sides in this incredibly stupid exercise?

Yes. I am happy with the years Fred was here, and like what Prohm has done so far (do feel he now is on his own and needs to continue climbing the ladder in the conference and overall). You can be happy with both. I'm an ISU fan, not a Hoiberg or Prohm fan. I will cheer ISU whoever is coaching and if a former player, coach, whatever is against us, I will cheer against them.

So, to derail the thread a bit, whoever voted in that poll has OkSU ranked 3 for facilities, but then in the comments say that OkSU doesn't have a basketball facility and their arena is too big. Meanwhile, ISU is ranked 6th in facilities. Apparently, some not so bright people where voting in that poll...

Yeah, remember when Iowa received votes, it may have been football, but when people looked at the individual ones, you could tell someone had confused Iowa with ISU and did it for like two weeks. Some people don't pay much attention to what they do.

Yeah it's a real dump. It's as nice as any arena in the country. I can't believe you are this butthurt that Hoiberg may start dating someone else! Just admit it's a great arena. You could sell that to a recruit just as easy as Hilton.

I'm anxiously waiting for deadeyehusker's update this morning!! What did Fred tell you during his sleepover at your place in Grand Island last night? Ready to make that arena Hilton West??

You people talking up Lincoln as a city......I’m starting to wonder if you’ve ever actually been there. Or if you’re mistaking Lincoln for Omaha? Lincoln is a **** hole.

Been to Lincoln. It is nothing special. Even their papers had a bunch of front page articles asking why Omaha could make itself nicer and cool and Lincoln was doing nothing. There are a few cool restaurants and bars. That is about it. It is a pass through town on a ski trip.

Yeah, and this isn’t a hate on Nebraska as a state, because Omaha is pretty cool. And it’s not hating on the city because of the team there, because I hate Kansas, but Lawrence is a pretty nice city and their campus rivals ISU’s in how nice it is. Lincoln just sucks.

Manhattan Kansas >>>>> Lincoln Nebraska. Seriously.
