I can never remember if I mentioned this, but I dated a girl who went to St. Olaf. She was really cool and nice and really seemed to enjoy it there. So if your daughter ends up going there I'm sure it will be a great place (I'm also kind of biased towards small liberal arts schools). The only story I specifically remember was her saying that for orientation one year they chose Toy Story 3 as the movie to play out on the quad for the new students. Probably not the smartest decision.
So I just made an impulse purchase and bought a ticket to see a comedian I like. This is different
I haven't seen 3 either, but I just know it's a tear-jerker.
Basic premise of the movies: the toys are actually alive. Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 take place when the main human character (Andy) is a child. Toy Story 3 takes place when Andy is going away to college. So basically you're showing a tear-jerker movie about a kid going away to college to a bunch of emotionally vulnerable freshman who have probably been on campus less than 48 hours and are homesick.
To be clear, I find the situation, but it probably wasn't the best choice.
It's like how after my parents got home after moving me in my freshman year they went out to eat, and right outside the restaurant was a billboard that said "take time to be a dad today." My dad was very "stoic" when he saw that.
Am I the only one who moved to college without their parents?
My parents were with me my freshman year but I've been on my own ever since then. I do go home relatively often though so it's not like they never get to see me otherwise.
I was #8 out of 8 in my family. I don't think my parents stopped partying enough to realize that I had left.
For what St. Olaf costs, you should be getting 3 hots and a cot. (Figuratively speaking, of course.)
WBB was fun last nite. The ladies got the W, senior nite and ISU niece came up from DM for the game. Went to Brick City afterwards and split the Nacho platter.It was good to catch up with her hadn't really had a chance to visit with her since Christmas.
Meeting with admissions counselor, campus tour, student panel, presentation about their "conversation" classes, faculty panel, award presentation.
The students seem really polite. So many of them held doors for us while we were walking around. My wife and I were standing in a hallway, looking out of a window onto the campus when some guy came up and started talking to us. It was the college president. Also, the students seem to take academics seriously which describes my daughter well.
The best news is that she officially eliminated Iowa from her college search after receiving their financial aid information yesterday.
We are down to two right now. I think it’s determined where he will go but still dragging his feet. Apparently his whole class is. Counselor said he hasn’t seen a senior class like this.
What's scary is that it's almost $10,000 cheaper than the other college in Northfield, Minnesota and that college gave us nothing but coffee.
They did offer her a really good scholarship (paying for about half of the cost). It still costs quite a bit but she may still receive another scholarship from them.
I don't mind the waiting to decide. It's hard to compare until you receive all of the financial aid packages.
What is his other choice besides ISU? You don't have to tell us if you don't want to.
These private schools do drive me slightly crazy in costs. If our son goes to ISU with no scholarship, it is still cheaper than his other choice with an 18k scholarship he was offered for football. My sister told me that there is almost no govt money anymore for parents with two jobs, she was definitely correct. Son can only get a small loan on financial aid. ISU hasn’t even offered us a fin aid packet yet. Not sure what the issue is.
Northwestern. Signing period ends the end of this month, meaning the scholarship probably evaporates also at that time.
I had it done going into my senior year, he is dragging way to long imo.
