Iowa State vs. Oklahoma Post-Game Thread

You know why you got a comment like that. Because the three or four of you are just as bad about creating drama when they win as others are about creating drama when they lose. Just be happy about the win instead of being pissed that somebody didn’t give Iowa State enough credit. It isn’t worth it.

They’re trying really hard though. Oklahoma sucks the preseason expectations were wrong since we are meeting and in many cases exceeding them.

Shows exactly what they are about.

I swear you live to create drama and an argument. They won by 17 and I could argue they looked as good defensively for an 8 minute stretch in the 2H then they have all year. And yet a few of you perpetuate the drama by simply not taking the time to enjoy the win with fellow Cyclone fans. You might be a great dude but I’m just not sure what you are hoping to gain by these posts.....eternal destruction for those that don’t agree with you or are you just looking to call people names and create drama.

Very accurate!

For those of you there, was it empty because of the weather. It sure sounded empty on TV.
Lol, go **** yourself. The Interstate north of 30 was closed until after 5. There were more than 10k in the stands making noise. It was definitely more of a non-conference attendance for students which is where the majority of ambient noise comes from.

Driving down Lincoln Way I won't blame anyone in north Ames for staying home. The town's attitude toward clearing roads is embarrassing

Not exactly ISU related but to this game it is.

OU just seems like a team without an identity.

No bad players, but no really good players either. A bunch of decent guys.

They have a few guys that could be pretty good in a year or two.

Not really worried about not getting the coach or the team enough credit.

But it is funny how some of the most vocal anti coach people have contorted themselves to make sure everyone knows Oklahoma is bad.

I was there. Post game on the drive home, Walters was ready to go to commercial and Prohm stopped him and talked about the crowd. He heaped praise for minutes and talked about the weather.
Then he talked about how after the game he told all of the players how lucky they are to play in front of a crowd like that on a day like yesterday. He further went into detail about the record this year. Then he talked about how the crowd was cheering like crazy when it was a tie game in the first half when we were diving for balls.

Steve literally stopped a commercial break to go beyond necessary with compliments.

I agree. The poster hit on a pet peeve of mine. Most universities would love to have last night's crowd especially given the weather conditions. The crowd showed appreciation for the defensive stops and the big rallies. Officiating was not terrible so maybe the poster expected the boo birds to be out in force. But, to critize and grade the crowd, is so ridiculous. Most times we leave games with no voice left but, OK, that a grade D.

But those announcers? Dear lord...unless your name is Bill Walton talk about the game.

They did get off-track several times with extended discussion of topics not directly related to the game, sometimes during live-ball action.

Usually I agree, but I was fine with the tirade countering everything Lunardi was saying about teams with losing records*.

*Lunardi almost always frames it this way - he rarely says conference losing record even though that is what he means. I'll take the #6 or #7 from the Big 12 almost every year before the #2 from many of the minor conferences with inflated win numbers from feasting on weak opponents. They generally have one decent win that they are hanging their hats on. The autobids from every conference is a cute little sideshow in the tournament in the vast majority of cases, but beyond that the dance should include the best teams in Division 1.

Agree, I didn't mind them having that discussion, although I missed part of it when I was away from the TV briefly.

Lunardi has been hitting that sub-.500 theme hard recently in his "Bracket Bunker" roundups. Seems he wants to separate what he thinks the committee will do (which is how he approaches his job, rightly) and how he personally feels -- also no problem with him believing that way, but there's no way to apply a blanket .500-or-better rule and be consistent; nor can you make a rule to have to finish in top half of a conference. System isn't set up that way..

Regarding your footnote notes, I'm mostly in agreement. I hold firm to selecting the best at-large teams, no matter what. As a CBB fan, there are cases when I'd rather see a Little Guy get one in over a big-league mid-feeder, but you can't bend selection protocol to make it happen.

I consider wins against NCAA tournament teams to be good wins.

It was a very good win, esp given how things have been going. SO I am not trying t odenigrate the W at all, but...

is OU a NCAA team, really?? They are 5-10 in conference, and 17-11 overall. With trips to KU and KSU remaining. And I didn't see any shiny non-con wins.

Their metrics look good, and bracketologists have them in as like a 9-10 seed. But I don't get it, I guess, that record just screams NIT, esp if they end up 6-12 in conference.

Trae Young's OU team was kind of the same.

I don’t think TV always gives an consistent representation of the crowd. Depends on how they have the sound set up somewhat I think.

I think they'd be way better if they hadn't played with Trey last year. I think he sucked all the oxygen out of the room, and they're having to learn to play again like a team.

Yes, it was not very full at all. The entire east side student section upper deck had about 20 people in it. I'd guess ~10,000 actual attendance.

And it was kinda dead. Lots walked in late - I parked at 6:55pm, and walked in at the 13:30 mark - and lots were behind me. And it took us a good 10 minutes to warm up and cheer after that.

I agree with this. Just like the audio often does not represent what it sounds like on the court. I hate it when they have the mic way too loud on the basket (seems to happen the most in NBA games) so it sounds like someone is throwing rocks in a trash can when the ball hits the rim.
