Why is Conditt not getting more minutes?

I'd like to see him play more, too, but I think he's not playing much primarily because it just hasn't been necessary when we primarily run 4 guards. The kicker is whether or not Lard collects a foul every minute of play.

Way up there
Obviously, he's stuck behind some really good players but its odd he doesn't find a little time. His biggest strength is this teams biggest weakness.

The biggest reason IMO seems to be that Prohm is 100% committed to the small ball lineup. If he were to mess with lineups to play bigger, I could see GC getting more consistent PT but it appears that the current rotation is just starting to come in to its own and be the kind of lineup Prohm envisioned early in the season. I wouldn't expect many changes, minus something drastic happening. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The really interesting question is, when will Conditt see major playing time? He's still got a minimum of 1 year behind 3 guys that he was below on the rotation this year, potentially, he could be playing behind Lard and Young for two more years. Based on what we know we have coming back and who is likely to leave, I could see Prohm going with a more traditional lineup next season to get this loaded front court more PT. It's going to be tough to keep George off the floor next year.

I would have liked to see him at KU after Lard got into foul trouble, but if he was sick, that explains it.

Outside of that, whomever said getting Lard back up to speed should be priority #1 is dead on.

I remember thinking before the season that one or two of the freshmen would likely redshirt...severe fail on my part!

OP, I am glad Conditt appears to be solid and will hopefully get more PT in the future, but it is hard for him to find more minutes when we basically play with 1 post for almost the entirety of the game. He's behind two really good players in Jacobson and Lard. I think we'll see some Conditt against teams with the right match ups; he's just a FR with two good players ahead of him.

If Lard would have been available, I think we would have seen some two post sets against KSU (they had Maween and Dean in there who are both two big posts that our posts can cover just fine and I think it hurt us that game not having Lard). I could also see us using it (Jacobson and Lard, for example) for decent periods of time against a couple other teams (like UT and WVU depending on their personnel at the time).

I hope Conditt stays engaged and realizes his time will come. I'd like to see Prohm find him some more minutes and try a few wrinkles with 2 big guys (as long as one of them is Jacobson typically since he's a threat from 15 ft.). Edit: I don't think 2 posts can work against nearly any foreseeable opponent if the posts are Lard and Conditt though, unfortunately. I think Jacobson will always have to be in there.

And FYI, next year it doesn't get any easier. He'll still have Jacobson, Lard, and Young to contest with for minutes.

Kansas was two games ago and that was a game to forget. Hopefully Lard can become more consistent and get back close to last year's form.

I would say what we saw Saturday was close to last year's form, both on offense and defense. Your point about "consistent" is yet to be seen for extended games, but I am seeing the progress.

There are only so many minutes to go around. It's probably nothing Conditt is or isn't doing, it's just that he has two better, more experienced players in front of him.

He does look like he's getting more comfortable out there.

If there were not so many injuries and suspensions, I'm sure at least one of them would have gotten a redshirt

I know there are good players ahead of him, but still thought he may get a few more minutes, especially with Lard in foul trouble (fouling out) and our inability to stop KU inside at the end of the game.

He was reported sick at KU.

I'm gonna assume he gets some time at some point when he's needed.

Also Self is really good at what he does and knew how to go after Lard early.

Prohm doesn't like large rotations. And even in the short rotation he decides on, he lets the same 5 guys on the court play extended stretches of minutes.

I don't necessarily like that. I feel he could do a better job of mixing in and alternating guys (like Conditt, Talley, and Lewis). Would help with keeping guys fresh in a given game and across the entire season. Limit foul trouble and injuries. The group of 10 we have would be capable of playing a fast-paced game for a full 40-min, something many of our opponents can't do.

Prohm is going to play who he trusts the most, regardless of my argument above. I can't fault him for that. Fred was the same as far as wanting a short rotation and getting his best players the bulk of minutes. But I do think Fred was better with situational substitutions. Whether it was getting a guy a breather an extra 30sec before a media TO, or playing the offense/defense strategy late in games.

Each coach is a bit different. We've seen what Fran does out east. Plays everyone on his bench almost every game. I think it was beneficial for him to have a couple guys sitting out this year to help fix that issue. But they still have other problems.

I was wondering why George Conditt is not getting more minutes. I know Lard is playing more and Jacobsen is playing quite a bit, but the past few games Conditt has really not played at all. I think he could have provided some valuable minutes against Kansas, especially with our foul trouble. I also think he would have at least gotten a few minutes against Ole Miss except for the last minute or two. I thought before the Kansas game he was playing pretty well. Would he possibly be in Prohm's dog house?

Because Prohm wants Jacobson and Lard to play that spot and there are only so many minutes to go around. He was sick against KU.

Did you miss the part where he was sick, and was available for emergency minutes only?
