The defender didn't execute an ideal close out but he wasn't wide open

It's seems like the commentator was complimenting Wigginton on how he was set up that allowed him to get that shot over the defender.

The best scorers continue to shoot even when their shots aren't falling, because they are scorers. There should be no problem with Marial taking open shots, no matter how he is shooting on a particular night. He has shown that he can score with some of the best in the conference.
If he were to have passed up any of his last 3 three-point attempts I would've thought he was in his own head too much.

That's what I was thinking. Shooters shoot. He had good looks. I'd rather he take them than start passing up on them. That **** will chip away at your confidence.

I'm ok with Wiggington taking that three there, he was wide open. He was also 4-4 on 2 point shots before that and had made 8 free throws. Im not sure why you are comparing that to shooting 4-17.

Because you seem to think when your shot isn't falling you need to give up on it and try something different. Wiggy was 0-5 from three. I'm sure glad he didn't give up on taking threes...

Lmao!!! Look how open he was waving his arms for the ball because he was so open. The defender realized that a little late, doesnt mean he wasnt open.

I've seen that exact play hundreds of thousands of times in basketball and in our games alot. The guy gets loose on the 3 point line and the defender recognizes it too late and gets a hand in his face at the last second. In fact, this is about as open as it gets at this level of competition.

So when you are struggling to find your shot on one particular night the answer is to just keep chucking and hope eventually something goes in right?

Sounds like a winning strategy to me, and a good way to keep your teammates engaged. Remember Trae Young?

Are you a basketball referee?

Where was Marial "just chucking" last night? No one is disagreeing with you that you shouldn't force contested/ill-advised shots (or 32 footers for your Trae comparison) what people are saying is your scorers should not stop shooting all shots (specifically open ones) when they are not having their best night.

Nope, but I've been watching college basketball for 30 years and I would say 90% of 3 point shots made are of this exact nature. The defender loses his guy for a split seconds or doesnt come around the ball screen leaving a high percentage 3 for the shooter. The only thing he can do is put a hand up in his face too late.

The other 10% are guys being suffocated and still making a play or throwing up a prayer and it goes in.

not disagreeing this doesn't happen often, but hundreds of thousands of that exact shot is a **** ton haha

This has been going on for at least the last three pages. They're not gonna get it. We're just going to have to live with Shayok's remorseless chucking all season long.

I hope this is hyperbole. If not, you haven't retained much knowledge of the game

All I want him to do is play smarter, and try to run the offense better. NWB is a master at this, getting the shot he wants and not trying to force things.

LOL, like those two off balance fall away jumpers he hit in the first half? Those were awful shots. But nobody's saying anything because they went in.

Shayok's shot selection was fine. There was no good reason to pass on the looks he got. If he had been forcing the action or not getting shots within the flow of the offense then don't you think Prohm would have yanked him or gotten him in line?

No. Prohm obviously has given him the green light. I dont even know why we are aruging, I love Shayok and want him to continue to score a ton, I just want him to play smarter.

I've already explained my position on how he can do that so this topic is over......on to Kansas.

Agreed. Something Hoiberg really instilled in his teams. Confidence in shooting anytime.
