The kid looked good on Saturday for sure. I'd pump the brakes before we anoint him the chosen one though. The good thing is we've got two more games to figure out it he's the real deal before you have to decide if he's sitting or burning the red shirt. If he pulls this team into bowl contention by his bootstraps I say burn it but if we loose the next two games I'd shut him down until next year and let Kempt finish it out assuming he's healthy.

West Virginia can scheme to help out against Purdy's running. They can't really do much to take away the pinpoint passes though. If he can maintain accuracy anything close to what he did Saturday, he'll be a legend.

I totally get the folks pointing out that there's going to be film on him now. Having said that, Oklahoma State was not totally surprised by him. One of the announcers mentioned Mike Gundy said in a pregame interview that if the freshman quarterback plays he gives them a lot better run option. So they had an inkling of an idea, you can't tell me that they didn't have some sort of contingency for that.

Film that forces teams to focus on our running game even if DM is hurt or if we have an empty backfield...huge win for ISU that they have film of a running QB rather than assurances our QB doesn't run and our star running back is playing hurt.

Exactly, if he hadn't also shown he can throw the ball this would be much more of a serious issue. I'm sure he'll have a bad game at some point, but there is absolutely no downside of a team "having film" of a QB who looks both like a running back and a highly accurate 300+ ypg passer. No downside, they could have 75 years worth of film of that. It's the kind of film you want them to have.

I feel the same way. I think Purdy may also have some say in the decision. He might not want to burn his redshirt. Plus, we should not forget what Kempt did for this football team.

People will need to remember he’s a true freshman so he will have some big ups and big downs, but today showed he has what it takes to keep the starting role.

He has a strong and very accurate throw and can make plays with his feet, a true dual threat QB the likes we’ve needed with a iffy Oline.

He will need to learn when to make the dangerous throws to keep from throwing too many picks but he can win us some games with those same throws.

Zeb isn’t a bad option but Purdy gives a lot more even though raw.

Hard to understand why he wasn't on the field before now.

Opponents having film on Purdy running like a beast can only help our passing game and Montgomery.

It's the reflex thing everyone says. Having film is better than being surprised, but it still means they have an extra running back to account for on every play while also suggesting the passing is more accurate rather than less.

Yep, he adds an entirely new dimension to our offense, and a lot more for the defense to account for. Wouldn't be surprised to see a spy on him, which takes one defender out of coverage.

Having a QB with the ability to move the pocket and make throws really, really helps an offense when the OL is challenged. I'm a Chiefs fan too, and Mahomes does a lot of similar things there.

As does knowing you can’t afford to sit on the ball and having the confidence in the QB to be more multiple in the game plan.

Watching the game again this morning-- two things jump out. Obviously Purdy with his incredible instincts and athletic ability, but also the huge number of freshman and sophomores playing at a high level is impressive.

That's awesome. Two great QBs are better than one. I would start Kempt if he is healthy but have Purdy ready to go if we need a change of pace. If we can find a way to preserve Purdy's redshirt and still win games, we should do it.

Kempt did great things. But Kempt would be the first to proclaim that nothing is owed to him.

Brock Purdy has earned more playing time. Brock Purdy played light years better than the other QB’s. Kempt did not play well against Iowa. The offense was struggling under Noland.

Suppose we should have saved Michael Rose season of eligibility. David Montgomery can still redshirt this year. Let’s save him.

See how ridiculous the redshirt talk is concerning players that are ready to play as freshmen.

Some of you guys are insane. You'd start Kempt over Purdy after that performance? I understand OSU's defense is soft, but what the hell were you watching Saturday? This is Purdy's team from here on out. Mark it down.

His ability to pull it down and run and get outside the pocket and extend plays masks maybe our top three offensive woes:

1. Average to below average OL
2. One-dimensional read option offense to Montgomery
3. WR getting open

He's going to be a terror for defenses on 3rd down.

I still think Campbell is keeping that Kempt situation close to his chest so I don't believe he's close to playing.

Brock will be in the backfield with DM this week and I think adding Brocks running ability will only open up more lanes for DM.

I can see them gelling very well in the backfield and could get the run game going.

I think they'll spy Purdy and force him to be accurate downfield. He looked capable against OSU, even when coverage was good. Butler TD was a dime as well as Milton's catch down the middle. He underthrows it just a bit because he doesn't have elite arm strength, but accuracy looks to be more of a strength than weakness.

No. If Purdy provides a better option you play him. You take 3.5 years of him compared to 4.25 years every time. I take what Campbell said as coach mind games.

Purdy threw that TD pass to Milton off his back foot because he was about to be smoked and he still got it there. He may not have elite arm strength, but it's not a concern.
