MLB: ***Official 2018 Chicago Cubs Season Thread***

That series was very reminiscence of the KC series. After that series we kind fluttered going 5-5 in the next 10 with 5 1-run games in a row. However, after that we won 7 in a row.

So if we follow that pattern, we will split our last 10 games, then cruise to the World Series*.

*The fact we lost 4 of the next 7, after winning 7 in a row, purposely ignored

It's really kind of be reminiscent of the entire year. As soon as you kind of think "hey we are on to something here" they lay a complete dud. I get you can't win them all, and the last two games were great performances, but we had Hamels going against their B-team and got smoked.

That's baseball.

Exactly...you cant micromanage game to game, you have to look at the season, and hope you're playing your best ball come the playoffs. 2/3 at home and .500 on the road gets you 94-95 wins. Cubs will probably fall short of that goal at home, but they have made up for it as a pretty good road team. They have done what they have needed to in the regular season, just got to hope they play their best come playoff time.

I honestly think the fact that they ran their "B" team out there got in everybody's head. Hamels probably thought he would cruise, and they jumped on him early. Plus it sounds like there was a lot of talk from the media about the "B" team prior to the game, and that got them fired up. The perfect storm, maybe? As long as Hamels gets back on track next time, no worries.

No Cubs game today...

Yah, not good. It's terrible to say, but I imagine the Cubs were (wrongfully!) willing to see past some of this when he was performing. With the way he's been playing and this coming to further light, I imagine he's gone this offseason.

I only skimmed it late last night, but I came away a little unsure whether she was just talking about verbal/emotional abuse or whether it was physical. If it was in there I could have just missed it. Not that it matters from him being a POS standpoint, but with the MLB's prior review I imagine they don't involve themselves if it is verbal/emotional rather than physical, which may explain their lack of discipline. Either way, I imagine Addie's days as a Cub are numbered.

Trade him for whatever you can get in the offseason.

Install Javy at short for the next 12 years and there's plenty around to take care of 2B (Zobrist, Happ, Bote, etc)

This is fun. Now we can all argue over Bryce Harper vs. Manny Machado.

I'm taking a moment to imagine the Bryant-Machado-Baez-Rizzo infield. That's not too bad.

I really like Harper, but the outfield is already full. You have to trade Happ or Almora to sign Harper IMO. And if anyone is getting traded it’s Russell. He’s a worse human being than he’s a worse hitter

That's all true. Let's face it, everything is full.
Russell should go. I don't have any fantasies that everyone is a moral paragon, but what you said there is plenty enough to move on without him.

Happ confuses me. I love his versatility, like Zobrist with more power. I assume he just needs more playing time to really take off.

Happ has the potential to be a top of the order bat. It’s still only his first full season. He needs to cut his K rate down from 36%. That’s rookie Javy type numbers. If he gets to League average, you’re talking about an above average bat at least.

Edit: Happ should never play CF. -0.9 dWAR

A lot of power and he can play a bunch of positions. He really is kind of in that spot Javy was early on, just filling in all over. If he gets it all together, and he probably will, he has a lot of value.

The whole thing makes me curious. We're really just making an outstanding team better this offseason. Are there any good FA starters available this year? I think we're in fine shape, but a top of the line guy never hurts (and maybe it's Darvish whenever he heals).
