Giancarlo Esposito impresses the hell out of me with his range. I remember just within one scene him having his "happy face" while dealing with Los Pollos Hermanos business, but his demeanor suddenly changing into sadistic bastard when he has to take a phone call related to his meth business.

The last reference I saw was the check Kim gave to Howard was dated 2003. It doesn't seem like much time has changed since then, so it is probably still 2003 or early 2004.

There's going to have to be a big time jump at some point in the show. I thought they said they were going to enter the Breaking Bad timeline in season 4, so it may be coming soon.
Or it will be a one time flash forward.

Albuquerque itself isn't that interesting. Albuquerque might be the setting of both shows, but it really isn't that important to the canon. This show could take place in El Paso or Yuma, AZ, or really any American desert town, real or ficticious, set within driving range of the US-Mexico border and very little about the canon would change.

Not exactly sure.
Wow, that first scene made me think I’d missed a few shows. Enjoyed it, and it definitely makes it seem we probably have a couple seasons only left.

Read in an article that there will probably be one more season after this one BUT the last season could have more episodes than normal.

So, just finally caught up on this episode. Hot takes:

- I think Jimmy's going to hit those kids back for rolling him for the cell phone money. Not sure how. I was almost surprised we didn't see Jesse as one of the kids buying a phone. He likely would have been a high schooler looking for drugs at the time, right? Or a recent grad?
- I love every time they show the Dog House as a tie-in with BB.
- Kim's clearly sabotaging herself so that she'll lose Mesa Verde; the question is if she'll go all of the way. If she does, I bet she moves out of the area (and there's likely to be some related fallout w/Jimmy), and that fully sets him on the path of Saul.
- I like how Mike clearly was always going to go for a guy who writes his notes and concerns on a little notebook, rather than a guy who uses all of the fancy technology and overpromises without articulating his concerns.
- Too bad there was no Nacho in this episode. I always enjoy his story arcs.

I think it was more the French engineer bragged about building a drug tunnel from Mexico to US. Gus called Mike and shut that down. Gus is not going to work with someone that talks out of school.

Be interesting to see if they follow this story and Gus congratulates the German engineer by having him eliminated once the underground meth lab is complete.

I cannot figure out what is driving Kim.

My read on Kim's arc is that she is self-aware of how corrupting the power and wealth of her profession can be (corporate law, large firms like HHM, etc.) and she is actively sabotaging paths into that trap. Things like being a public defender at the local courthouse fit her desires more than being counsel for an expanding bank conglomerate. She's lived through the demeaning work and humiliation under Howard, and survived a car crash from being overworked on her own ventures. She was deeply affected by the unresolved rift between Chuck and Jimmy.

She genuinely cares for Jimmy, wants him to be a decent human being - suggestions for a therapist, seeing him get a legitimate job on the way to restoring his law license. I think his deceitful ways catch up to him and either have unintended consequences for Kim or otherwise ultimately drive them apart. Which is fascinating as it unfolds, seeing Jimmy continue to break bad and become Saul, as it costs him everything he once had (but yet he's an advocate for the common man and against the law establishment - just like Kim!).

This last episode was pretty slow compared to others this season, but it was probably used to set up a lot of things for later this season. How many episodes will there be this season?

Not exactly sure.
It was the last scene.

Yep, thanks. I just flipped it back on and remembered that I started falling asleep during Gus's speech to Hector. So I stopped it and went to bed. That was a good one. I wish he would have gotten their cash to just empty them out.

Yeah, I'm surprised he didn't try to get his money back, or at least what they had on them. I don't think they ever said how much he lost, but it had to be at least hundreds of dollars. Maybe even a grand or two.

It ended up being a one time fee for protection, and street cred. Beside those goofs probably had it all spent the next day .... nothing to get back.

I almost thought Kim was going to tell the Mesa Verde lady, "it won't happen again, because I quit," but clearly she's not quite there, yet.
