Golfing around Ames

I think 16 is the bigger challenge. 234 yard par 3 will always be harder in my opinion than a long par 5.

15, 16, 17 and 18 are pretty tough finishing holes.

Are the lines much different at TCI playing from the tips? I've never really looked. Most courses aren't, just a longer distance. I finally played the tips at Honey Creek last fall, and I thought a number of those tee boxes made it a very different course as far as shot lines and angles of the hole.

Played otter creek yesterday, it is in fantastic shape.

I like Otter. Feel like a couple holes are repetitive. 3 & 5 are both par 5s with the pond right of the fairway. 9 and 12 are also similar dogleg rights. But I'm just being picky. The wind out there can make it tough, but overall I enjoy playing there.

Any further updates on course conditions? I would think all the courses should be real solid the rest of the season. Assuming we don't get anymore 5" rains...

I played Coldwater for the first time on Sunday and the fairways on 4 or 5 holes were pretty rough or nonexistent in places.

I play league at Otter, 15 mph wind feels like 25 mph out there. Not a terribly long course but lots of thick stuff that can really ruin a round if you spray it off the tee.

Otter and Coldwater are similar in that when the native grasses are in growing season you are likely to lose your ball if you hit in there. Early and late in the season when that stuff is trimmed down the courses play much easier.

Absolutely. I hit driver off the tee from April-June and switch to my driving iron once the thick is full grown; rather add 25 yards to my approach than take a penalty for lost ball.
