I know there's some Packer fans here. Thoughts? Are the Colts getting a decent player?

Morrison led the Colts in tackles last season but he was a poor fit in their new 4-3 defensive front.
As a Vikings fan I’m shocked to see the Packers part with a member of their secondary. Pass defense is one of their weakest position groups and to see them part with a CB without replacing them is a bit of a head scratcher

We'll, they did draft two corners with their first two picks and I think they've been hit pretty hard by injury at LB.

I can't find anything on that. I think the risk is that he'll start the season on the PUP list, which means he is ineligible to play for 6 weeks, but I don't think the whole season is in jeopardy yet. I saw they did acquire a center from the Giants though.
I see an article on ESPN that he will miss the remainder of the pre season. With one game left I'm not sure the that was bottom line news. I was at a meeting and happened to see that scroll by as it started so it must have said preseason and I missed the "pre" part.

IMO, the NFL has finally become NBA and MLB: Nobody really cares until the playoffs start.

The big difference is that with the NFL, they have a short season where each game should be important and interesting.

College Football still rules.

Broncos signed Pacman Jones. Not sure how I feel about it. CB depth is pretty bad but he's a cancer in the locker room.

Good move by the Pack - Pipkins was a long shot to make the team. Both Alexander and Jackson are picking up Pettine's defense quickly. They each had an INT in the Oakland game, Jackson's was a pick 6 but called back for a penalty.

I think Morrison will be a valuable acquisition. He's better suited for the 3/4, and Pettine doesn't want to have to move Matthews inside again.

Sounds like the Raiders are actually thinking about trading Mack. If that happens, it won't help their future stock with potential draftees, especially after hearing about them cutting last year's second rounder.

“Retired.” More like, not good enough to continue playing.
Yeah, it sounds like he hadn't been playing very well in camp.

That said, I'm not sure what the Pats are thinking when it comes to receivers this year. They are pretty thin. That said, Brady has demonstrated that he doesn't need good receivers to be successful, so it probably doesn't mean anything.

Morrison will be useful and might even end up with a few spot starts but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. Like Pipkins with Green Bay, he was a longshot to make the Colts' 53 man roster. He plays well in the box and he's physical, and IIRC he's been pretty durable. But he doesn't play well in space and his coverage skills are nonexistent. The more I read about the trade the more this appears to be two teams getting something out of guys they were going to cut anyway.

I've heard at least a dozen teams have called just to gauge the asking price and three or four of them are serious about making a deal. We'll see. You don't give up an edge pass rusher in his prime for anything less than a king's ransom, and I don't think the Raiders will get anywhere close to what they're asking for him.

Brady will do what he always does and make average players look good. Cordarrelle Patterson has been getting some attention during their camp this year. Maybe he's finally putting it all together.

Chiefs defense is gonna be brutal.

**** the NFL and these rules. 92 getting flagged for that is Bs
That secondary is so bad. Kendall Fuller is fine but opponents have been torching the other side.

Better hope we put up more points than we give up. That's the only way we'll win games this year.

Cutdown Day looms - by Saturday Sept 1st all teams have to submit their 53 man roster. That's nearly 1200 players hitting the waiver wire in a 24 hour period. Gonna be a lot of guys coming and going.

Thought I read somewhere that Morrison led the Colts in tackles a year ago? But you're right, he's strictly a run defender. Packers have been adding players like Josh Jones who are big physical safeties, but can also play a hybrid position. Coverage skills are imperative these days.

Also liked your post about cutdown day......it's gonna be crazy. Used to be two cutdowns, now there's only one. That's a lot of sad faces in one day.

He did lead Indy in tackles but that can be a misleading stat sometimes. They were a lousy defense. LIke I said, he'll be a useful player for Green Bay but not an impact guy. I expect the Colts are getting roughly the same thing from Pipkins at corner.

Yeah, tackles are an almost meaningless statistic. They aren't consistently recorded and there isn't a lot you can take away from them. Here's a good article:
