2018 Cap City League

With Haliburton, NWB, and Conditt's length and the way Lard loves to block shots from angles, I'd LOVE to see us play some of Syracuse's matchup zone defense.

It's CCL. He's a steal but not a top 25 player.

I agree it's too early to say he's a future NBA guy because the CCL is a joke, but he looks really comfortable with the ball in his hands for a player his size. He runs the court well, can dribble and shoot from outside.

He's definitely not a slow, plodder which is what you worry about with a 6'10" guy like that.

Once he fills out and gains experience, he'll be very good I think.

Who does that? I’d be curious if you could name more than 5 players that redshirted last year without looking it up. (Obviously not transfer or medical.)

It’s smart to save your redshirt for a transfer.

You dont redshirt basketball players. So he puts in all this work in our weight room only to transfer later or potentially transfer later? No thanks. He has the ability to play now, weight is no factor for a PG with his height, reach and athletic ability

One of the story lines of the national champion Villanova last year was the fact they were able to get guys to buy-in and redshirt. More than half their starting lineup during the tourney run was made up RS guys. All of which were 4 or 5 star guys coming in including three that just got drafted in Mikal Bridges, Donte DiVincenzo, and Omari Spellman. Jay Wright must be a wizard.

Granted Nova has built up quite a bit of clout, so a tough comparison, but they weren't always that way. He really built a system of getting guys to buy-in at a small private school.

Main point - if you can get the kind of kids that see the bigger picture, and the benefits of a RS year, then it can certainly be done successfully.

i get what you're saying but nova got lucky - one dude had grade issues and another got injured. that's why they redshirted.

His ceiling appears to be VERY high.

If Conditt is as good as I think he is, we're not going to get to enjoy that upside at iowa state. He might be our highest draft pick on the team.

6'10" guys that are athletic, block shots, and can make 3's are 1st rd picks.

Odds this is our starting frontcourt in 3 years and all 3 guys are still around?

3 - THT (junior)
4 - Conditt (junior)
5 - Lard (senior)

0.1% chance.
And you could make the argument that if they are, something went wrong and they aren’t as good as we thought. At least 1 of those 3 and probably 2 of them should be leaving for the NBA within 3 years.

Wow I was thinking more around 35-40% or so. Have to break it down by player:

THT: Kid is an absolute stud and top 30 recruit. He is young for his grade though. I think he is in a similar spot as Wigginton if I had to guess right now. As he is young for his grade I'd lean toward him turning pro after his junior year.

Conditt: Loads of potential but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Was not a top 150 recruit and has to mature and develop. Have a hard time seeing him leaving before his junior year.

Lard: Not going to lie have a hard time seeing him here as redshirt senior if he continues to develop but you just never know.

I think THT will take the same path as Wigginton. He’s already mentioned he wants to get to the NBA ASAP. If he’s as good as we all think/hope, he won’t be around long.
I also think Lard is gone once he’s projected in the draft. He’s basically on strike 2 right now and I think he knows that.

What % of our high school recruits have made it through 4 years over the last decade? Maybe 25%?. 25% X 25% X 25% = 6.25%. There is the answer.

I think we might have to redshirt a couple guys this year with the depth we have. It woukd benefit Haliburton and Conditt as well as benefit the team. This is probably the deepest ISU roster I have ever seen quite honestly.

This. If we had a short roster like last year, there's no way anyone redshirts. But this year? The only way I see both those guys playing is if there is some attrition or injuries. I'd put both players playing at 25%, both players redshirting at 25%, one playing, one redshirting at 50%.
