2018 Cap City League

I really don't know why any ISU players even play in the CCL. Does ISU get anything out of this? The players sure don't. Sure the fans do, but ISU basketball does not hurt for fans.

I just think this is a big risk with little to no reward at all. The guys can bond all they want to in the practice facility.

Its not any riskier than playing pick up games. If anything, the play tends to be the most physical when Iowa State players are guarding each other. I don't think playing in the CCL poses any more risk than playing games against each other at the practice facility. I think the players would like it more if it were closer to Ames. I would think they would get sick of playing against each other all the time and like some new competition. They need to move the games to Ankeny if they want to keep it going though.

CW also makes a good point on this. You're getting out of the training facility, having fun with your teammates and getting some run in against guys you don't see every day (wouldn't count on Drake being too down either, they piled on a bunch of transfers that look decent, and the Murphy twins are real good for MVC)

Chris makes fun of and mocks the CCL on the radio every time it comes up. Seems hypocritical to act like it’s important now.

He mocks that in the grand scheme of things, it doesnt mean jack squat who does what or scores how many.

Its not important, but it's fun and a chance for the guys to blow off steam, jaw at each other a little and play in a structured environment with refs, score, time, etc. The point he's making is sometimes having fun with your teammates is useful.

Agreed. It's also a good opportunity for the players to interact with fans a bit more. There's more in the works here than just playing lazy basketball.

I appreciate anyone who posts info on who might be playing/not playing on certain nights. I'd love to go to some games, but I hate showing up when none of the Iowa state guys are even there.
