That was a drawback for my boys. One was during summer break, the other was during Christmas break. Once they got to school age, I don't think either one of them ever had a birthday party on their actual birthday.

The first child got elaborate in-home birthday parties with games/activities/decorations. Haven’t done a party for anyone since the oldest was about 10. Mom fail. I was going to do a painting party for the 7yr old at Creative Spirits here in town but the minimum was $250/10 kids. Too much for me.

Rabbits kind of go in cycles here. There's so much clover out in the front that they stay there, close to the lilacs. Whenever the population starts increasing, the foxes move in. They stay for a year or two (until they decimate the rabbit population) then move on. Then the bunnies start, well bunnyfying again...

Our parties were typically 2-3 families going to Chuck E. Cheese. Yeah. I'm lazy like that. My family didn't DO birthday parties when I was a kid. Our tradition was that the birthday girl got to choose where we went out to dinner, and that's what we did with our boys. Hence the Cheese. When they got older, they started requesting Shogun.

So hubby hates rabbits with a passion and has a B.B. gun to try and keep the population in check. He has not been too successful as of late. I went out the front door and a little one was eating my annuals on the front step. I scared him into the front landscaping. Hubby got him, I went to check it out. This stupid rabbit had convulsed all over, spraying blood all over the siding and rocks. Gross. Hubby got most of it off with the hose, storm should have cleaned off the rest.

This just reminds me of “Wabbit Hunting. Duck Hunting.”

Kids with summer birthdays usually bring treats on the old half birthday here.

Since this is the now the ***official*** mom's, pregnancy, birthing, babies and kids thread we should edit the name to Random Thoughts XII - The Delivery and Beyond Thread.

What say you all? ;)
Meh - there's been a fair amount of biking conversation also. And we're now into the bunny rant portion, so you should feel right at home!

Not a fan of bunny rats but the deer have supplanted them as #1 on my garden hate list. They didn't do too much damage this winter other than what they could gnawed off through the fencing I put around stuff. Think maybe the coyotes/fox/feral cats are taking a toll on the bunny pop.

Also, haven't seen many squirrels of late. Which is odd. My bird feeder and crab apple are usually overrun with the southside and northside gang members. I am wondering if the roof repair crew and the pest extermination crew I saw across the street the other week might be related to this, like maybe the squirrels where nesting in the neighbors attic and had chewed through the roof or something.

That's funny. Someone in Z's class must have gone there a few months ago. One Monday or Tuesday, she was talking about that place as familiarly as if we live there.
I haven't been there since it was Showbiz Pizza Parlor way back when. I remember the games, getting in trouble for bugging a mascot, and watching the Celtics play Milwaukee in an NBA playoff game.

So we'll probably go someday and make actual memories, but she hasn't brought it up since. That said, if I mention it even a little, she'll instantly recall everything from before.

Heh...forgot about them knowing Showbiz (with the bear band) first. :)

Haven't run the dishwasher all week. It's full so decide to run a cycle and notice there are no wine glasses in the dishwasher racks.

Once you get kids in school, May is NOT ideal for a birthday. I did try timing our first for May since I was working in the schools and then would not have to take any unpaid leave. Now we have two birthdays in May and it is crazy busy this time of year. I finally promised the 7yr old an actual party this year. Not sure when it will be yet, birthday was two weeks ago.

The kids in 1st grade have had a birthday treat everyday the last 2 weeks of school due to May/June/Summer birthdays. Hubby’s is June and he loves having a summer birthday. Better weather than the 3rd of March. ;)

that's a good point. DH and I have birthdays those months and I at least always liked a June bday. I have commented that this kid will get summer pool party birthdays which at least to me are fun!

More on the plus side. If your feet and ankles swell you can just go barefoot or wear flipflops. Can't do that in January! Plus you don't have to buy a bigger parka that you'll never wear again. And a bigger parka is just going to have sleeves way too long for you. Also no need to wrestle with a sweatshirt or sweater built for two. Seems like summer is a winner for you. ;)

Seriously, I wish it could like this morning's weather all summer. Too bad it going to get 20 degrees hotter today but right now it's a beautiful sunny 76 with a slight breeze. Just perfect.

I was actually super grateful that by the time I wasn't fitting in my coats, I was done with that! Having to buy a winter coat just for a few months would have been really annoying.

Survived the shower, good food and such. Sitting out at the winery got a bit warm.

Big news of the day though is our best friend couple have purchased a house. And they are going to live very close to us!!!!!! I was super duper excited about this. Like, they may rethink and renege on their offer now, lol. They are even in the same elementary school district. There's like, 10 in our town so this is pretty cool. Now they're stuck being our friends forever!

So was up in Des Moines to partake in a birthday dinner not at a chain restaurant, and see Solo in a good movie theater.

Saw the movie first. We're standing around a bit after the post-movie bathroom break. I look over towards the ticket counter and ask my husband "Is that [his brother] over there looking at movie times?" About 5 seconds later, I realize it isn't...but it was awfully close. So parents head to car to drop some stuff off before we continue shopping. I take niece deeper into the mall to go to Justice. I realize I was headed the wrong way, do an about face, and there fifteen yards in front of me IS my brother-in-law pushing a stroller with my youngest nephew in it. Weird!
