My neighbors take our older dog when we vacation. We take theirs when they vacation. It's really going to suck when they move in a few years. They tend to give us booze for helping them. I tend to do their outdoor maintenance (or offer them the correct tool for doing such things) in return.

We've got a 7 year old dog and a 12 week old puppy. That's enough fun for now.

Up until last winter, we had a reciprocal with a friend in town. When we traveled, she would come over on her lunch break and watch our cable and play with our cats, fill their feeder and water fountain, change the litter. When she traveled, we went over and played with her cat and took care of its needs. Then she moved.
Now my (currently single) SIL comes & stays here when we're gone.

She has a dog that lives with her parents because of rules at her apartment had before she moved in with me. He’s great with me and we tried moving him back with us but it just didn’t work and I’m not really that mad about it. He got so spoiled with her mom working from home that he would **** all over our house in revenge when we took him in here because we both work full time.

I just work so much that I don’t want to spend my free time and extra money taking care of a dog. Call me heartless, but I will never have that kind of connection and compassion for an animal compared to my son.

We have also had anywhere from 1 to 9 cats/kittens, but nearly always more than one cat. Kids are all gone, so are the dogs. Current cat count is at 6. Oldest is 15, so that number may go down in the next couple of years. Or not - we've had 2 cats live to 19 years old!
Kids & pets kind of go together, IMO. Speaking as a former kid myself, sometimes your dog is the only one that will listen to you...

That sounds like a good situation. I was mostly joking around based on some friends and people from work I know talking about their own situations.

None of it confuses me. It scares me. Was there ever a vacation????
 
Have one pet dog. A Bichon/Maltese mix. I like to say he's a Bitchin'-Tease. Only 10 months and looks more Bichon than Maltese. Had a full Maltese and she died in November 2016. Was sort of talked into getting the new one and now I'm the only owner. He's such a cutie and everyone wants to cuddle him and take him home. He loves everyone and every dog he meets he thinks should be his own best friend and play together.

He does like to chew. But is getting better. So far 4 holes in the walls (small so easy to spackle over and patch). One belt ruined. One nice leather slipper. * And more paper/cardboard and plastic bags than you can imagine.

I can't imagine life without him.

* Forgot about the corner of a coffee table that is nicely rounded now and splintered.

I have the perfect set-up right now. When I travel my sister comes and takes care of my dogs and cats and I do the same when her family travels. It's stressful enough for me to try to get things taken care of before I go on vacation so to not have to take my pets somewhere is one less thing to worry about.

I tell people I want to come up with a pet sharing app. 3 families (or however many) share a dog or 2. I think it would kill.

Inserting my own option for "Plan to have pets"

Single, no kids (and frankly okay with both of those). Want a dog, but currently travel about 10 weekdays a month and worried about not being around enough/cost of boarding.
