How did you guys determine what your major was going to be? After a year of college I still have no idea what I want to major in

Have you enjoyed any of the classes you've taken so far? Anything pique your interest?

In the end, you have to get an idea of what kind of job you'd like and be willing to do for a large portion of your life. I started out in engineering but after a while I decided I would be happier in a business related field.

I'd give you the same advice I gave my daughters - try to find an occupation that is something you really want to do. I know too many people that only go to work because it's a job. Liking what you do makes all the difference.

I enjoyed intro to sociology but I wouldn't want to major in that. I'm thinking computer science or business. I'm already in Iowa State's business college as a part of the 2+2 program but I still haven't taken a business course yet.

The job I want doesn't require a degree. I mostly want a degree as a backup plan.

We are used to a few dollars in fees but this was by far the most egregious use of fees and crap that we have ever seen.
I was talking to a friend of mine with a kid and she said the ticket was like 18 bucks for an adult, then another 11 with fees.

I'm the last person to listen to about making life decisions outside of do the opposite of anything I do. That being said keep taking some different courses to see if anything catches your interest more than others. Lots of people have jobs that have nothing to do with their degree. The important thing is it opens doors for you.

Great, they are instituting a new entrance/exit policy at work. All must be through the front door. Smoking section is still in the back so smokers will spend more time smoking as they will be having to walk around the building to get to the smoking area.

Sociology is a fine major, but harder to get a job in.

I really liked my philosophy and history electives, but I didn't want to be a teacher or anything.

Can I ask what job you want to do?

Yup. We got a coupon that was 2 for 1 so basically the kids was free with a paid adult. When we went to buy online it was around that $11 in fees. So I just got tickets when we got there and it was only an extra $2 with taxes.

I don't care what job you get. And you annoy the hell out of me. But please listen to this.

Whatever money you bring home, put 10% of it into a long-term investment account. Do it via direct deposit, or use your company's 401(k) if they offer it. Just make sure it's never in an account that you use on a daily basis. You won't miss that amount of money, and starting the investment when you're young means you'll never need to increase the amount, and you'll have more than enough money to live on when you retire.

If you are serious about it I would say Business Management and contact them now. Try and do a job shadow, internship or something else like that. The companies can vary on how they go about their sales tactics and can even vary from office to office. Drop @AdamJGray a line and show your interest.

I had looked into it a couple of times but I don't like being sold to and when someone tells me no I wouldn't have been pushy and would have just told them to have a nice day....not a great attribute for a salesmen.

Selling life insurance can be very lucrative. One of our friends, who was an RN, quit and went to work for Northwestern Mutual Life. She now drives a BMW convertible, and they have remodeled their home to the tune of $100,000 or so. (Her husband isn't wealthy, nor does he have a great job.)

Just curious, but is she hot? It sounds bad, but that usually helps.

Sales is an interesting animal and it takes a specific kind of person to be good at it. I would be terrible at it because I am just not that comfortable selling myself I guess. I have pretty good customer service skills but things like job interviews drive me nuts.

I've also heard that sales can be super stressful and you can be on your ass quickly if you aren't good enough at it.
