I have never seen 2001

I saw it in 1968, I was all of 12 years old. My older brother was a huge sci-fi fan, he read Arthur C. Clarke, Bradbury, Heinlein, etc. so he dragged me along. I remember coming out of the theater thinking, "What the hell did I just see?" Man, I was weeks getting over that movie. I have probably watched it at least another dozen times since then, and I always see something new. (This is typical of Kubrick films, though.)

Considering it was made 50 years ago, it stands up very well today. Douglas Trumbull's special effects are truly awesome, for the time. The story line is as deep as you want to make it - but it's guaranteed to make you think.

One of the Jeopardy writers is from Nebraska (so Husker fan). There was a category on just generic football terms/rules one time, and all the questions were video questions, using players from the Nebraska team. I think maybe one question was answered correctly.
Oh the irony of Nebraska Football players being on Jeopardy.

Froze my nether regions off tonight, but I am ok with it. After 8 months I finally got to see my oldest compete. He was definitely off his game, but still had the best 800 time on his team and was middle of the pack for the 400. Knee felt fine, and that’s all I cared about. While very cold at a crappy track ran by clueless people, I still enjoyed myself tremendously.

Unintentional or intentional, that's a Kaylee Firefly reference.

How did you guys determine what your major was going to be? After a year of college I still have no idea what I want to major in

In all seriousness, coming out of high school, I knew I had a pretty good aptitude for math and science so I decided to try out engineering. When I realized that I didn't have what it takes to be an engineer, I decided to choose a career that was still numbers-oriented.

You're still a freshman so don't feel to rushed to make a decision. If in doubt you can always start out in Finance, Marketing, or even certain types of Computer Science. These are majors that open up a lot of possibilities and don't put you in too much of a niche category.
