If he wants to go back at 133, then Iowa is a great spot for him. If he does truly want to go 141 (which is the rumor) then Iowa doesn't make much sense for him.

Who’s at 141 for Iowa? I know they have a hole at 133, but he’d easily be the best 141 in that room as well.

That’s who I was thinking. Lot of solid 141s, but DeSanto wouldn’t be avoiding Iowa for any of those guys.
Turk made it just as far in the tourney at 141 as Desanto did at 133. And I think he wont even be the starter as Murin is a stud and I see him as the 141 next year.

Also, I never said Desanto would be avoiding anyone..what im saying is that if he truly wants to be at 141, then it doesn't make much sense for Iowa as they already have a log jam of 3 other guys at 141. 133 is there weak spot and if he doesn't want to go there then I wouldn't think it would make a ton of sense..

EDIT: With all that being said, I think he changes his mind and goes back to 133 and chooses Iowa FWIW

Also, I think Desanto is hyped a little too much. I'm guilty as any. I was a huge fan (have since dialed back a ton due to his antics at NCAAs). But I think he is honestly a lacking athletically and technically. He beats people due to his motor and attack rate. The kids that can match that OR take awhile the couple things he is good at, he is very beatable as we saw. He isn't great on bottom either. Also, if he gets his left arm controlled (like he did against Micic) he is very limited.

I wonder about this too. I give him credit for slaying the dragon and that's a helluva trophy to hang on the wall, but does he get nearly this much attention if he doesn't beat a clearly < 100% Lee?

I don't think he gets much attention at all if he didn't beat Lee. A healthy Lee would have majored him at least that year. He is a kid that I believe doesn't really progress in college that much. People will keep figuring him out and I don't think he is naturally talented enough to overcome it in the long run. And I think that kind of plays out on the national scale too. I feel like we are seeing quite a few kids have more early success than later success in their college careers.

I hate that I’m “defending” DeSanto because I really don’t care for the kid, but even though he technically finished the same as Turk did, his wins (as a true freshman) over the course of the season absolutely outweigh Turk’s wins. He lost to Micic by 12 at NCAA’s, but he also beat him by 12 earlier in the season, along with beating Montorie Bridges (8th) and Jack Mueller (6th last year).

The hype might not be exactly the same if he didn’t beat Lee in high school, but by the time he beat the returning 4th place finisher 22-10, he would’ve been getting tons of attention no matter what. Athleticism questions aside, the kid can wrestle. It remains to be seen how he progresses, but that can be said for every freshman.

All this being said, I agree that his best bet would be staying at 133 as well, and if he goes to Iowa, there will be a major push by the staff to keep him at 133.

As much as I dislike Iowa, DeStanto going there would fill that hole at 133 and go a long way towards giving Penn State a challenge at the team title next year. Would be great from that sense.
Sorry, but I disagree. The only good thing about Penn State winning all of these titles is that it is not Iowa. I still belong to the ABI fandom - Anyone But Iowa. Go Cyclones!

Oh don't get me wrong. I would not want to see Iowa win the team title, but from a neutral perspective another big challenge to Penn State would be great entertainment value at NCAA's.

Is there some truth to the rumors he didn't leave on his own and was asked to leave? If so I think Iowa is the landing spot

If you watch the end of his last match, he was not happy with the coaches. Not sure if he wanted the challenge block thrown or something else. Definitely didn’t pick up any fans with his antics at NCAA tournament

Yeah I don't think people are paying attention to the season he had. He earned a seed as a true frosh at the NCAAs and it had nothing to do with beating a gimpy Spencer Lee.

I'm also not sure about this athleticism stuff. He looks plenty athletic to me and he's crazy strong. My guess is that he will thrive from a wrestling standpoint at Iowa. They are great developing lightweights and there's a ton of quality workout partners for him.

My take on the situation with absolutely no knowledge... going to Iowa would be like putting racing fuel on the fire. Going to Penn State would provide the mental stability/coaching approach that he probably needs. Either way, if he ends up in the B1G competing week after week against that talent will be tough if he is struggling mentally with a few things.
