Only 184 looks to be an Iowan in Wilcke/Bowman

I'd rather win than have a bunch of Iowans starting. You sound like an Iowa fan when it comes to the ISU basketball team. I have never seen teams get assigned more wins for having natives on their team.

A more concerning issue is the lack of big time wrestling talent coming out of Iowa. What native Iowans are definitively better than Iowa's starters? I'm coming up with a few maybes and that's about it. Might be missing a few.

Well we were 3rd at nationals last year. Crazy that B1G tourney is tougher than nationals. But I agree, very few holes in the lineup next year.

Now you know how it feels to be a Big 12 basketball and football fan

I'm not that familiar with Iowa's lineup so won't argue spot for spot, but there has been a troubling number of high ranked Iowa natives going out of state in the last several years. Hopefully the CRTC will have a positive effect of steering them to the good guys.

Ur right...Iowa youth wrestling hit a lull starting around 2010ish. I don't think we have had a top 10 P4P in a long time...last one went to you guys. In 2017, there was no Iowa kid in the top 50 and that was just the seniors. In this class, we have two...Alex Thomsen#27 and Teske#34. Iowa got Carter Happel and UNI Max Thomsen in the years before.

Brands had to change his recruiting philosophy which is similar to what you are seeing at UNI. Load up on a bunch of Top 100 guys from Iowa and try to get a few blue chippers from out of state... Quantity, not so much top quality and develop the diamonds in the rough. PSU and tOSU are out-recruiting everybody and many of these kids are ready to come out and wrestle right now and be dominant. It is no longer really a recruiting victory to get a top 30 senior when your competition is picking up multiple top ten p4p and world level guys. In this, the market goes where it goes. Ohio (Marinelli for us, Carr for you), Illinois (Renteria, Warner, Cassioippi for us, Gomez for you)and of course PA for us. PA specifically, has always been one of the best wrestling states but Iowa rarely went there. But look at a club like Young Guns and you see names like Lee, Nolf, Kemerer, Cenzo, Megaludis just to name a few. How the hell can you afford not to? Jody Strittmatter has these guys ready to go...they are a credit to him. Next year, we will have four guys that were top P4P in our lineup, two top 20s and the rest are top 50 except for Lugo and Wilcke...who will be the lowest ranked guy on our team at #83.

Note: This isn't tooting our horn or even a humble brag post. Tom took too long to adapt to what is going on out East. He kept us in the top 5 every year but that's not good enough. He and the staff have adapted and we have a good shot at taking the team title in 2020...ten years after our last one.

Not exactly sure.

Honest question. Iowa fans have been saying 2020 for a year now. If Lee wins a natty again this year, I think he could end up at the OTC or even just an Olympic red-shirt that year. That would be a huge hit to lose him for the year.

I had said that If he has one natty maybe he doesn’t sit out the year, if he has two, I think there is a good chance he does and would be a probable contender to make the team.

This year looks solid:
Lee
DeSanto (JRent RS)
Murin
Lugo
Young
Marinelli
Kem
Wilcke
Warner
Stoll

Losing Lee would obviously suck, we plug in Cashman and still have a nasty lineup. Cass at heavy will be a force.

Nah...at worst, he's managed through the year picking their spots ala tOSU with Snyder. If anything, recent history shows that a guy coming off a college season who is a top contender has a solid shot at making the team. Happened to Ramos, Gilman, Zain...no reason to think Spencer can't. Also depends if he makes the 2019 world team...best case scenario for him is to medal and sit until the 2 of 3.

Rumblings that Patrick Kennedy has committed to Iowa. Wow. Here come the upper weights. If true the 2020 lineup is looking unreal.
