I want Mark's thoughts on this. My manager's manager in my office is being sued for a negative review he left his former realtor. He put the review on Zillow and a couple other sites just stating what she failed to do(the objective facts). My opinion, is that free speech rules and if someone does a bad job...own it. I can't believe someone would have the balls to sue over a review. @ChrisMWilliams

Just an FYI Charter isn't going to give you the exact answer you want. He previously had talked about negative reviews on Google and threatening to sue if they were not removed. However that particular review he claimed as unwarranted and just vengeful, so who knows about this situation.

It's pretty hard to prove that anyone didn't do something. For example, I know some people get angry because no one is showing their house. It may just be an ugly POS or more commonly just over-priced. The Realtor may or may not have told them this but will likely get blamed by some for not showing the home to non-existent buyers.

Reputation is important and will be even more so in the future but I don't think bringing in the lawyers is really the way to go. It would be better if some of these sites would allow for mediation or rebuttals.

Plot twist: The bad review the OP is talking about is about Mark Charter.

I'm here!

A legit review is nothing to sue about. You can't please all the people all the time.

The one that upset me was done entirely to harm me. It was left by someone who did not live in Iowa and had never used my services. The entire intent of the review was to hurt my business.

If the person who left the review for your boss lied in it and did it to harm the business, they can be found guilty of libel. But they would need to be able to prove it was untrue and their was intent to harm the business through the review.
