NFL: Offseason Thread

You might be right, although I'd add Kelce and Hill to your list of untouchables.
You're probably right. But.... Hill is a couple years away from a massive pay day that I'm not sure the Chiefs will be willing to give it to him. He also has baggage which isn't fun. Google him at Oklahoma State... Kelce on the other hand is nice but I just feel like if Peters was available pretty much everyone is.

I think that's overvaluing Peters. He's a good corner but he clearly has some maturity issues and the Chiefs decided they didn't want to deal with the headaches. I've heard about Hill's past and I'm no fan of his, but to his credit he's been well behaved since he arrived in the NFL. Plus he's on a rookie deal for two more years before they even have to worry about a long term extension or franchise tagging him.

I don't think KC is in fire sale mode, but I do believe they're trying to get younger.

If you think this move was made without a plan for replenishing the CBs, you need to think a little harder. My guess is they're talking with a FA or two right now, and plan on picking someone like Josh Jackson. Gutekunst will be doing business a lot differently than Thompson did.

Word is also out now that after Randall got benched following his tantrum in Chicago, the players wanted him out (released). It's pretty obvious now that McCarthy was only playing out the string with him.

The Pack have SO many weaknesses, it's just sad they never we're as good as they should have been when Rodgers was at his peak. They won't be good again until after Rodgers is too old now IMO.

Lot of stuff happening overnight:

WR Allen Robinson to Bears.

WR Sammy Watkins to Chiefs.

QB Case Keenum to Broncos.

@RapSheet: The #Chiefs are now adding a big weapon on defense: They plan to sign former #Cowboys LB Anthony Hitchens to a deal worth $9M per year, sources tell me and @TomPelissero.

I didn't realize the number of picks the Bills have acquired for this upcoming draft:

Round 1: Pick No. 21

Round 1: Pick No. 22

Round 2: Pick No. 53

Round 2: Pick No. 56

Round 3: Pick No. 65

Round 3: Pick No. 96

Round 4: Pick No. 121

Round 5: Pick No. 158

Round 5: Pick No. 166

That's a ton to wheel and deal for a QB. I love the NFL draft and all the drama that goes on that week, so the Bills have piqued my interest. I feel bad for Bills fans in that the front-office is probably going to have to part with a number of those picks to land the QB that they like the most. They've lost all leverage by parting with Taylor and not even feigning interest with signing Cousins.

I am a Bill's fan and actually I am elated. I have also been listening to Buffalo radio and 90% of fans are buying into the new Management style of clearing bloated contracts and implementing a a clear vision of getting a top quarter back this year.
The plan wasn't to win last year (after a 16 year year playoff drought) get a top 10 pick and they loaded up with other picks. They were much better than expected resulting in 2 late picks but still were able to collect assets to move up. Now they are executing the plan.
Taylor was a professional and I'll root for him in CLE but limited. The GM/Coach didn't get suckered into to just staying at the 8-8 middle ground and by getting a 3rd they can continue with their plan. They actually use the same motto as ISU's coaches "Trust the Process".

Brees just signed a 2-year deal with NO worth $50 mil, $27 mil guaranteed.

Cousins or bust for the Vikings now. I don't think Brees was ever a serious possibility anyway but now they can't afford to get outbid by the Jets or anyone else.

The Colts have been oddly quiet. I thought they would be serious players for Norwell, Hitchens and Albert Wilson. With so much cap space and most of the top shelf guys agreeing elsewhere I'm wondering who they're going to spend it on. My best guess is that they'll look to bolster the o-line and d-line, but they better get a move on.

Yup, Minnesota clearly in the drivers seat for Cousins. NY Post is saying how the Jets are pretty screwed now that QB Plan B (Keenum) for both teams is off the table.

Mark Rosen, pretty well-connected to the Vikings, saying Cousins will sign tomorrow:

I am not up to date with the Broncos QB situation. What happened to Paxton Lynch? Is he just a straight up bust?

Hard to say since he's been injured a lot. In two years he's seen action in a whopping five games. But when he has played he hasn't looked like anything special. I would guess the Broncos will swing again in the draft and maybe make Lynch available in a trade or just outright cut him. Maybe the Cowboys would be interested. IIRC they were very high on him going into the 2016 draft.
