Hate to be a debby-downer, but why is this such a big deal? He had little to no offers previously and his value is over-inflated right now due to lack of options. This isn't a come in right away and start kind of guy.

Have you watched his tape? This kid can make all the throws. Accuracy appears to be very good as well as touch. Who gives a rip about offers which he has had. I'm excited to get him in house and see what happens based on his tape I've seen and the fact that this staff wants him.

Find me a reason how beating out Bama and A&M for a QB isn't a big deal! His recruitment blew up because he had a huge senior season, not because Bama and A&M are "out of options."

So we can only get excited about guys who can come in and start as true Freshmen? We won't be getting excited very often then.

He received offers from Bama and Texas A&M. Even if there are less options at QB right now for the big boys to choose from, they still made the offers. Schools only get 85 total scholarships. If you think they were just throwing them out there without thinking this kid can play, then you are mistaken.

I think that's exactly what they are doing. Why not offer a kid who has a slight chance of succeeding if you're not going to fill it with anyone else anyways?

Because while many kids transfer or get run out of town, you still only have 85 scholarships. If he commits to them they have some obligation to honor that scholarship. They can just as easily use it for a different prospect this year or save it for a bigger class next year.

This is a good point.

Still, there were 20 previous Alabama offers to QB that didn't sign with them. Let's not act like we're beating out Bama for a standard recruit. This is a supply and demand thing.

Yes the supply is short, but there's still demand. Jimbo Fisher just got the job at A&M. This first class will be highly scrutinized. He wouldn't just offer some scrub for the sake of offering.

I agree that Bama and A&M would be focusing on 4 and 5 star QBs if more were available right now. But that doesn't mean that Brock Purdy isn't a very good 3 star QB.

Bama and A&M haven't landed a QB for this class. Most likely they view Purdy as the best available right now, but the majority of the class has already been signed.
