You’re loading the stat. It’s just as apt to say he’s only had to fire one of his major hires in 11 years. That’s what is unusual.
It looks like he’ll be 1 for 2 on football hires, with the miss going to a bowl game in 3 of the first 4 years. Not bad. Chizik was an incomplete.
At places like Nebraska, Florida, LSU, Auburn probably, especially when boosters get upset and threaten to take their money elsewhere. Most people high in the food chain with ISU athletics realize how bad things were and you don't turn it around over night. JPs only bad hire for the University turned out to be Rhoads. The others left on their own.
At ISU it's about keeping the dream alive and keeping the money rolling in. We just bowled in the end zone and are talking about another $75 million in upgrades. As long as that trend continues, JP isn't getting forced out by anyone.

Didn't read the whole thread, but this news finally put a smile back on my face since we got screwed on Saturday. It's so fun being excited about Cyclone football and feeling like there is actual substance, instead of empty Cyclone hope, to that excitement.
I was just thinking, maybe part of that $75 mil should go to luxury referee locker rooms. Think Texas locker room, only for referees. And instead of a snack bowl on the table, we just have little buckets full of cash for them to grab from.

For comparison Chip Kelly will be earning $4.66m per year for 5 years at UCLA, which is a NPV of $21,341,435 at a 3% rate. In spending terms in CA $100 buys you $88.97 worth of goods so Chip earns an equivalent to $4,146,002 per year.

But again the buyout will be in the $7 million range. This is still a very, very good buyout for us.
Buyouts for hiring a coach are very different from buyouts for firing a coach.
One example was hoiberg who had a 10 year, 20 million contract. His buyout when taking a college job was only 2 million. (And we only got 500k for the NBA)

I think there are people that are looking at a slightly lower buyout as a sign he’ll be looking to leave or that Iowa State was not smart.
But the 7 million buyout is really, really good.
There is no rule on buyouts. They could be the same no matter who wants out of the contract or they could be vastly different. They could even have reduced buyouts for a coach to leave for a "dream job" or increased buyouts for a coach leaving for an in-conference school. The only real rule is that both parties have to agree on the terms.
