Bielema Fired

I think I would have skipped the presser if they fired me walking off the field.

"Sorry, guys, park's closed. Moose out front shoulda told ya"
Totally agree. Your contractual obligation to be there is over. Does Arky gets in trouble for not allowing media access to the coaches after the game? If so, I definitely wouldn't be there.

You're screwing over the media more than the school by doing that. Unless he hated the media, it doesn't make sense.

The school pulled a **** move by firing him prior to the press conference. They sent him out there to roast. F them.

So reports are that his buyout is $5.8M. He got that buyout from an extension he got after going 3-9. I'm not going to feel bad for either party in this one.

Technically his obligation may not have been over. He was probably informed he would be fired, which has a different effect than being let go on the spot, and would require him to keep doing his duties until the contract was formally terminated.

You can argue that Bret Bielema didn't win enough games as Arkansas' football coach, but unless a coach has committed NCAA violations or grossly embarrassed the university with his conduct, no one deserves to be fired while walking off the field after the regular-season finale. Yes, Bielema will walk away with millions of dollars in a buyout, but other coaches are going to think long and hard about the direction of Arkansas' athletics department before taking the job.
