The review of "Ragnorak" in USA Today got on it for being too heavy on humor/wisecracks.

Is that possible in a Marvel movie?
It's a Taika Waititi film. I would assume the writer is not too familiar with his work if that is the complaint.

I'm not familiar with him but the reviewer seems to think the movie fits his previous work.

There have been little rumbles of whining and complaints of too much humor since the first teaser and maybe before.
I think some people are seeing the word "Ragnarok" and expecting or demanding a fully dark experience all the way through, but forgetting that this thing is supposed to entertain and bring audiences back for more.

Hard to be much darker than the last Thor movie, a little humor would help everyone.

Saw in another review that the backgrounds in the film are reminiscent of a 60's-70's era Stan Lee-Jack Kirby book.

I'm all in on that.

Anyone got plans to check out Thor: Ragnarok opening night???? Surprisingly, I'm in the "NO" category beings how my buddies and I are taking off for West Virginia Thursday night. Therefore, beings how this is Cyclonefanatic and all, I'm sure most of you can understand my sacrifice. Wish I could do both at the same time. Probably won't be until the following Monday that I'll be able to pull it off.

Somebody finally asked Kevin Feige about his thoughts on The Inhumans TV show and you've got to love his response:

I know you’re a huge Inhumans fan, and you lost that property to TV. Now, with that doing how it’s doing on television, do you look at that and go, well, maybe it’s best we didn’t do that one? Or do you still wish you had that property because you think you could have really knocked out of the park?

[Laughs] You’re breaking up, Mike. I can’t hear you. You’re breaking up…

(Non-spoilery) I know, I know, I'm my usual behind the boat here with this, but I've officially finally finished The Defenders on Netflix, so I'll post my usual review I do of everything. Well, if you haven't looked not far in the past, you'll see I posted some fairly positive thoughts on The Defendres series at the halfway point of watching, so you'd think I'd likely come on here praising the series. Unfortunately, that isn't true at all. Sure, the series started a bit slow to build things up, but that was okay. Then, things really picked up as everything lead to their first team-up, which I thought was awesome and done really well. Even Iron Fist was getting redeemed a bit at this point.

Trouble is that everything kind of fell apart from there. Iron Fist started doing his usual stupid Iron Fist stuff again, mixed with his usual bad acting and bad characterization. The writing especially is what went downhill with terrible dialogue and a muddled story that just didn't make sense and wasn't very interesting. I really just hated pretty much all of the last 4 episodes, leaving me with about 2 good episodes (episodes 3 and 4) in an 8 episode series. The lack of a good payoff of multiple series of buildup for The Hand was truly disappointing. It even went to the point where it made me dislike certain characters, particularly all the villains, that I actually like up until now, mainly due to terrible dialogue and storytelling. This was hardly Sigourney Weaver or anyone else's fault. They did their best with what they were working with.

In the end, I walked away from this thing super disappointed. Was it Iron Fist bad? No, but it wasn't drastically better. So, if you were to lump all the other series, excluding Iron Fist, together at a certain high quality level and then place Iron Fist miles below those others, I'd then place The Defenders someplace in the middle of that large gap. It feels weird even saying this, but if we are talking about currently running Marvel TV shows, I'd say that Season 4 of Agents of Shield was drastically better than both Iron Fist and The Defenders. Talk about a change of tide there which is exciting on one front and super disappointing on the other. Boy, I really hope Marvel Netflix TV gets things turned around with The Punisher, which I think they will. Otherwise, they might find themselves in a place that is hard to get out of and I haven't even talked about the whole Inhumans fiasco. All this only strengthens my argument for Jeph Loeb (head of Marvel TV) needing to go. /rant

I'll update my MCU and Superhero TV show rankings here in a little while when I get a chance.

FYI... please give me a like if you read this and like me posting reviews. In the end, I just like posting them for my sake. I kind of like just getting my thoughts in writing sometimes you know. However, it is nice to know if somebody else actually reads them :). Even just one person makes it worth it to me.

Yeah, I am current Inhumans and thought after the first couple episodes that it wasn’t bad but not great. It has only gone down from there. Bad acting, bad plot, silly head scratching decisions parts that make little sense.

I agree, Iron Fist and Defenders were bad and I am biased towards the genre. The casual watcher has to find them to be horsesh**

The best thing about Defenders is that it made me far-less critical of Luke Cage, both as a character and as a stand-alone series. I am really looking forward to S2 of that particular show.

Luke Cage to me is still in the great first half with a rough second half category. However, I will say that Luke Cage's second half wasn't nearly as bad as The Defenders second half.

I'm a bit slow on this, but I always follow my full reviews on things with coinciding updated rankings. Therefore, to start things out, here is my updated Superhero TV show rankings to include Season 1 of The Defenders:

  1. The Flash (Season 1)
  2. Daredevil (Season 2)
  3. Daredevil (Season 1)
  4. Agents of Shield (Season 4)
  5. Arrow (Season 2)
  6. Arrow (Season 1)
  7. Legion (Season 1)
  8. Arrow (Season 5)
  9. The Flash (Season 2)
  10. Supergirl (Season 1)
  11. Jessica Jones (Season 1)
  12. Supergirl (Season 2)
  13. Luke Cage (Season 1)
  14. Agents of Shield (Season 2)
  15. Agent Carter (Season 1)
  16. The Flash (Season 3)
  17. Powerless (Season 1)
  18. Agents of Shield (Season 1)
  19. Agents of Shield (Season 3)
  20. The Defenders (Season 1)
  21. Agent Carter (Season 2)
  22. Iron Fist (Season 1)
  23. Preacher (Season 1)
  24. Arrow (Season 3)
  25. Constantine (Season 1)
  26. Arrow (Season 4)
  27. Legends of Tomorrow (Season 1)
  28. Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2)
As you can see, The Defenders did not rank high at all on my list. Sure, it wasn't Iron Fist bad (there should be a large gap between Agent Carter Season 2 and Iron Fist), but at the same time, it wasn't very good either. Based on my review, nobody should be too surprised where it fell into my rankings..

Apparently, the upcoming New Warriors show that was planned to be released on the ABC Freeform channel won't be released on there now. Instead, Marvel plans to shop around the show to other networks with many guessing the show will eventually land on Disney's new planned streaming platform. If I personally had to put money on it, I'd guess the same thing. There is a reason why this show isn't going the Freeform route and the biggest thing to change within their company has been the announcement of their new upcoming streaming service. Plus, it just makes sense. There is no doubt Disney is going to make some original shows to air on their new service in order to entice people to subscribe. I'm also in the boat that they will eventually make their first live-action Star Wars TV show to be aired on their service. Just wait. If they want subscribers, Star Wars will get you them.

So here is an interesting twist about New Warriors - apparently, Marvel cannot shop their programming outside the Disney family of networks. The article I posted above said to keep an eye on where New Warriors lands. If it ends up on the Disney Streaming service, then the show will not be seen until 2019 and Marvel was very keen on getting this show on the air next year. If New Warriors doesn't find a home anywhere, it could mean that shows like Runaways on Hulu and the Marvel-Netflix series may eventually be pulled from those platforms and moved to a Disney-owned network down the road.

Good. Very funny. It has Taika's style all over it, which I like. Some of the story I started to pick a part but I enjoyed it overall.

We were thinking of going this weekend, but my daughter hasn't seen either of the first two. She knows who Thor and Loki are from the Avengers, though. Is it necessary to see the first two beforehand?

It shouldn’t make much difference.

There’s sort of an ongoing Loki-Odin thing but all in all it works freestanding.
