Finding out in the Ken Burns Vietnam thread who all of my fellow old dudes are. ;)

So many names and phrases from that time echoing in my head right now.....Khe Sanh, Tet offensive, My Lai, Lt. William Calley, Ho Chi Minh trail........I remember my Dad saying that war was never right in our living room until Vietnam. People found out just how horrible it really is.

Remember the old song and singer Rico Suave? Looking at this pain chart, for the word mild it has Suave below (Spanish words below I assume).

So he was bragging about being mild? Kinda kills the song.

R-r-r-r-r-rico!!!!

People are jerks!!!
Viral photo of a Florida nun in a traditional habit clearing debris with a chainsaw. Do they praise her for contributing? No. They criticize her choice of attire and her religion.

If she was photographed kneeling in chapel or standing over to the side praying, they would complain that she wasn't providing "practical assistance".

Channel 8 showed a video clip of that on the news last night, they gave her props for being resourceful and helpful! :)

I have a very vivid memory of watching an "embedded" reporter on the evening news giving an update on a firefight that was going on behind him. All of a sudden he hollered and fell down. The cameraman instinctively kept him in the frame. The reporter is lying on the ground clutching his leg AND the microphone, and he looks at the camera and says "...and anyone who says reporters are safe is a damn liar".

Sister Mary Elephant? Sorry, had to, the Vietnam thread has thrown me into a revolving door of late '1960's - early1970's flashbacks.

She's probably thinking more along the lines of Proverbs 26:11 (one of my personal favorites) regarding anyone who hates on Taco Tico.

I don't hate it. I just don't think it's that great. When I moved back, I thought "man, I need to get some Tico!" And I did. And I was disappointed. So I tried it again. And was still disappointed. I think the fascination is more a nostalgia + "I can't get this whenever I want" type of thing.

I'm from Mason City and I think Tico is totally overrated.....
That's because you're from Mason City. Nothing against Mason City (well except that the basketball team beat our team my senior year led by the slightly puffy guy and the guy with the bad, spiky hairdo). You just don't understand the relationship Taco Tico has with Fort Dodge residents. It really is a very personal and spiritual thing. Taco Tico is the essence of who we are.

We don't care if you don't like Taco Tico in Mason City or the ones in Arkansas* or Kansas. However, if you put down our Taco Tico, it really burns us right in our soul and we may hold a personal grudge against you for a very long time**.

*A friend from FD currently lives in NW Arkansas and once saw the Duggar's at a Taco Tico there. Yep, Cool Story Bro.
**Mrs JCyclonee and my daughters do not like Taco Tico. Because of this, I know I can never fully love them.
